In 1965 a Pontiac GTO with the optional 389 Tri-Power V8 engine cost $2800. In 1964 the GTO was not yet a model of it’s own but rather an optional package you could order on the LeMans 2dr post for a few hundred dollars.

I had one of those '65 GTOs with Tri-Power and factory 411 Posi-Traction. Bought it used in 1967 for $1600. I was exactly the kind of idiot who had no business driving such a car.

Seems a reasonable estimate and there were sure a lot of $15 and $20 hats sold in that era. I just meant that Penney’s being a bit of a popular price establishment…. A $15 hat was probably a fairly premium item for their shelves. Im not sure but do feel like I remember @drmaxtejeda finding a Fifty or 100 JC Penney hat

and we joked that thing probably stayed behind glass till the stores closed!

Borsalino Galmoela bowler. Size 58 with the brim at 5,2cm and the crown at 13cm. This one has some age to it and is not in pristine condition. It may have had a liner, but it's no longer there and it has received some bumps in its past it seems. Very thin felt with a nice hand to it as one would expect from Borsalino. It is a model we have not seen before and it does feature a very nice decorative sweatband (can't quite make out the words though). With the separate size label it's late thirties for this one.

Thanks Max. Glad my memory wasn’t tossing me to the wolves. LOL. Makes me think of the dude that waltzed into that JC Penney and plunked down 100 smackeroos for that one. Or did he put it on his Penney’s card.

Great hats! The Maclachlan innards are particularly attractive.

That Standard Stetson, though, was a de ja vu experience. I knew modern Stetson liners are reminiscent of old designs, but I didn’t realize they can be actually replicas. Here is my modern Excellent Quality liner - almost an exact replica of your vintage Standard Quality.

1950's Collins & Fairbanks. 2 3/4 inch Cavanagh Edge brim, 5 3/4 inch open crown. This hat was made by Lee Hat Co. Just guessing, I'd estimate this about a Twenty or $20 hat.

I just bought a 1950's Disney Twenty which is the same color as this C &F hat, and these 2 hats look virtually identical, with same brim and crown measurements and same brim edge treatment. The Collins & Fairbanks hat is at least as good as the Disney, and the brim seems to be thicker or denser than the Disney although the Disney has a quite good brim. I'd say the Collins has a better sweatband, too. I say all this because, unless I'm mistaken, both hats were made by Lee Hat Co.

Received my custom boater with the black ribbon this morning. It is made by Cappelleria Melegari. Not quite as good as the Ponte Rialto boater above it, but almost as good. Will post some more photos and do some commentary in the boater faction thread.

I have a few new hats. First off:

I told myself not to buy more stingies, but here I went and bought this Borsalino Augusta Diamante II. It's a really nice soft long fur, but I wish the 1 5/8 brim was about an wider. My wife likes the look if it.

Next up is a Borsalino Grand Luxe 5x in gray. I swear this ribbon is a very dark blue which I really like on this hat.
I bought this to replace my existing Grand Luxe which is a size 4, but I think I just may well keep both.
The felt on these are very similar. This new one has a 2 1/2" brim vs my other at 2 1/8". Last pic shows both.

And finally, a Stetson Fifteen 3X with mode edge.
I was pleasantly surprised that that this hat is more of a gray green moss color with a matching ribbon.
The brim is 2 3/4" and ribbon is 1 3/4".
There is some minor moth damage, but I still looking forward to getting this and the Borsalino above into the rotation.
