Interesting topic which I have a few thoughts on. I am 58 and not a small human 6’1 and 275 lbs. so I struggle to find jackets that fit me just right. I ride motorcycles, dirt bikes , adventure bikes etc. more than a few times I have heard the old guys like you shouldn’t be riding dirt bikes, “you’ll get hurt“, “ grow up“ These people are not my friends nor do I associate with such small minded people. We have one life, this is not a dress rehearsal and none of us have enough time. Wear what you want, ride when you want because no one owns your happiness, only you.

Just a hint, most of the online content are written created by younger guys and gals under 35. Most are probably still in their 20s, straight out of college kids.

If you've been around the block a few times, do whatever you like with your money and time. Life is too short.
I think most of this content, now is harvested and rearranged from the web and by AI as click bait for advertising.

As a younger guy in his 20s, I think that's it's really cool, maybe even a bit inspirational, when an older dude rocks clothing he actually enjoys. Makes me want to follow his example and makes me feel a bit more confident as well. Just reinforces the idea that people can be cool at any age.

i'm part of the over 50 crowd and was thinking about buying a rmc buco cz.

in the back of my mind there are distractions that i need to overcome and deal with if i do get one. it's not that i can't pull it off as i'm tall, lean and look much younger.

but i do feel like it's portrayed to many as trying too hard to look younger with a cross zip and it's something that i wore 20/25 years ago. so i'm kind of on the fence not getting one. i much prefer truckers or a cr.

i look aggressive enough without a cz. i don't know if it's true but cz seems to take the aggression level up a notch and more peeps will start with you. i really don't want to have to throw down whenever i step outside or every time i enter a bar. it's hard to avoid, though. ugly, weak minded, poor dressed fat slobs are easily offended and jealous.

and @MrProper is 6'7...holy chit....pretty sure people outside of the netherlands will walk on the other side of the road if they see him.

- In our 20's we thought other people were talking about us.

- In our 30's we decide not to let it bother us, and

- In our 40's we realize they never were.

Wear anything you want and happily so. Be that as it may I do have a perspective I've adopted for myself.

I was born in the 50's and when it comes to leather jackets a brand spanking new jacket with that fresh out of the box look is pretty to my eye. On me it can also look like it doesn't belong or better worded, I'm not particularly pretty and I definitely don't look like I'm fresh out of the box (my apologies for those sensitive to the double entendre).

I have some graining, scuff marks, a scratch or two, a little patina and other indications of wear that I don't care to cover up. That brand spanking new jacket can look like it doesn't belong on me but when I put on an identical jacket that's as broken in as I am it immediately looks right and that stark contrast between new and old disappears.

Look back at the photos in this thread that show an older guy in a leather jacket and in each photo you'll notice that the guy is wearing what appears to be a well broken in jacket. The wearer of the jacket appears similarly well broken in himself; they match..

Beyond my wife (we celebrated our 38 year anniversary on 12/31/2025) I normally don't bother myself too much w/ what others think of what I wear. That said, I count myself as part of the clothing choice for the day and sometimes that means a certain jacket might be what I'd prefer to wear but not what I'd prefer to see myself in.

When you were a young boy a brand new pair of sneakers wouldn't look right until they were broken in. Were I you I would ask myself if I intended to spend the time breaking in that jacket to the point that it looked like it had been well loved and mine for a good while.

Anyone can wear whatever they want.

That being said, I do agree that cross-zips look best on:

1. Younger people
2. If you don’t have a belly

I know people and especially leather jackets say ‘don’t listen to haters who say you can’t wear certain things after a certain age’. And while this is absolutely true, if you like it wear it, at the same time I am confident you would look better in a half belt than a cross zip.

Thats my 2c
