Yes, i don't understand why Daniele was negative about this hat, if you like stingy hats, you only have to make a hatband/ribbon on it and it's a very soft quality hat. The color is great! For me, the brim is too small, it doesn't suit me.

3 1/2 crown as shaped
1 5/8 black grosgrain ribbon
2 1/8 brim with 3/8 bound edge

One of the two travel mates of the Lee GP clone, this Brent showed up a very dirty smooshed up mess. With two or three deep moth nibbles… one that goes clear through the felt. When cleaning and shaping, it seemed to want to settle into this sorta pork-pie teardrop crease. Not so much my preferred style… but a fun little change of pace. This crease manages to pretty much hide the moth divots so that works out. Might make a good hat to practice moth damage repair before attempting on a nicer felt. The brim certainly needs some work and overall might benefit from a good steaming.

^ I like that one just as it is, with two exceptions. First, it's too small for me. Second, I think my slight OCD would eventually demand I make that brim more symmetrical...or maybe not, and I'd get used to it before that happened. Regardless, I really like it; it has just the right casual "I really don't care" vibe going for it.

Sometimes we need a hat that is not all about being a rare gem in perfect shape… sometimes just the right hat is an old beat up hat like this thats bigger on personality than style. The kinda hat you don’t mind throwing on with shorts and a mismatched t-shirt.

Yes, I was thinking with enough block extentions I could make that hat but then I thought....."where the hell would I secure a felt blank that big"....and my dreams were dashed!

It might not be a wearer, Bob, but it's definitely a unique keeper.

Not as high as Bob's new, really high, unique looking Western, and even though I knew this one was far too small for me, I just had to have it in the collection for several reasons: it's a well made top hat in very good condition, more than likely English made, moleskin, ca.1920s, maybe even pre or ca. WWI, broad brown leather sweat, so an every day top hat as opposed to a special occassion topper, and the final icing on the cake, for me at least, it was sold in the town where I now live in Denmark.
I'll vist the local museum to see if they have more information about Hr. Lorentzen who took over the business from Hr. Perrot.

I think it's a triumph, Bob! Where are you ever going to find another? I kind of imagine a hatter so fed up with a customer going "meh, the crown could be a bit taller" that he made the crown to end all crowns. What a thing!

Addictive kind of hat, Steve (they all are of course). Hard to say no to a fine topper if the price is right. I can see why this one just had to come.
