I think I would need a 40. But these are very hard / impossible to find.
I just measured my blue Shields (42) and the black Score and determined that the black Score is 40, despite the size tag being unreadable. I feel some resistance when I move my shoulders forward but I can zip it up no problem. No such resistance in the 42 Shields. If I wanted a t-shirt-only fit in blue Shields I would probably need a 38. Good luck to both of us!
I am happy I have the 42 though. A little roomy, but it is a rare bird and a pleasure to wear. The color is off the charts.

Unfortunately, I am returning this gem just too small. I get a 22" pit to pit including the football. Tagged size 40. I can zip it but it feels like a straight jacket. Probably post-war 40s based on the label and Crown/Coats Clark zip. Pristine vintage condition lighter than my straight zip police Taubers
The seller was asking $750 and came down to $700. plus state sales tax and low shipping cost.

As for my own scores, ever since my 'return to the Lounge' I have gone a bit wild (although that is a relative term around here, let's face it). I put in an order for a custom Aero Cafe Racer in brown CXL FQHH last week, should take another 3 months to arrive. I might even pick it up in person if the situation allows it, and make a short Scotland trip out of it while I'm there. With the whole Brexit situation, I figured I can either pay customs fees or buy a return ticket to Scotland.
Apart from that custom order, I also just made good use of the Spring Sale by getting a discounted Trainee Board Racer in Cordovan CXL. Both the hide and style I have always been curious about, more so than with other styles and hides. The combination of both these curiosities rolled into one, along with the superb discount, made me pull the trigger. Something tells me this jacket is gonna be something special...

Catch and release even if I'm still torn as this Highwayman is almost new and the Cordovan CXFQHH batch used for this one is the nicest CXFQHH I've handled so far. Chest, hem and shoulders are perfect and the length is quite good on this one (shorter than my too large size 38 Highwaymans I sold) but I wish the sleeves would be 1 inch longer. As the jacket looks odd on me, there is only one way selling it and searching for a new one, hoping to find such a nice batch of CXFQHH again:

Though the Muholland seems to come from this line of repros but it is too modified so I am not 100% sure about its heritage or mix of heritage. The owner of FW did oversee the Joe McCoy way back when Toys McCoy's owner still owns RM.

Like I said in the Classifieds thread, very nice jacket! Body length looks good. But yes, the sleeves could definitely be longer, much too short for my tastes anyway. I hope that helps make you feel better about selling the jacket.
