Almost. In the figures below: a William Lennon Horween no8 cxl steer (2016, walked thousands of km's), an Alden Horween no8 shell cap toe boot (2018, moderate wear) and an Alden Horween no8 shell long wing brogue (end of 2019, almost no wear due to covid).
It is pity that there is no sunlight now, you could then see the real difference, and the amazing colour depth of horween no8 shell.

Very lovely collection of footwear. So interesting to see how the light bounces off of the shoes and gives you different depth of colors depending on the angle and lighting. I'm sure this is going to be more confusing in the color spectrum with daylight. Shell cordovan is really special.

@Harris HTM shows you a some of the difference between the two and the biggest thing will be the depth of color shell cordovan will have. The Color 8 shell will vary all the way from dark brown to a lighter burgundy. Horween also does have a color 8 cxl which is one of the better cxl colors but it is more one dimensional compared to its shell counterpart. A lot of brands and companies will use the cordovan name to describe any burgundy shoe which can get confusing, especially when looking to buy shell cordovan on ebay.

That's really cool! I'd be very interested in seeing what your boots will look with this elk leather, and thanks again for passing on info about Dehner. I have heard about that factory and know that they do make great things but I am in the same boat as you. My boots don't need to be 100% perfect and would rather have a sturdier boot as well. I think standards for me would be different in a dress shoe where I think finishing is more important than on a boot. Also to note about Miyagi Kogyo, I have seen boots made for Skomaker Dagestad that are almost exactly the same as the JL combat boot but are $150 cheaper. I found the difference in price interesting and wonder why that is.

Got it, that's very good to know. Now I know what to look out for but considering all that info now I'm wanting to have a color 8 cxl and a color 8 shell for the future.

Wearing Allen Edmonds Normandy boots in dark brown/red kudu and NO JACKET because it’s over 70 degrees F today. Does feel great out here though.

These were my first foray into “nicer” boots several years back. Not as comfortable of a sole as my Whites or Wesco, not as solid of a build either, but still love em. And the leather basically looks great no matter what happens to it.

Arrived today, perfect fit, like a glove, excellent craftsmanship and very fine materials...as far as I could estimate. Unfortunately some small damages on left
tip´s seam so I returned them.

Replacement will be some double soled handmade in Germany full brogues.

These were my first foray into “nicer” boots several years back. Not as comfortable of a sole as my Whites or Wesco, not as solid of a build either, but still love em. And the leather basically looks great no matter what happens to it.

Congrats on a new pair of shoes, they look very proper. I've never tried shoes with a leather sole before but yours look terrific

I’m still geeking out over my William Lennon boots. They’re something else, I think it’s the thick leather midsole that makes them so solid and comfortable. I got CXL Horween cordovan as well. There was quite a wait for them, I imagine it’s even longer now.

I cannot praise them enough, I own three pairs of WL's, walked miles and miles on them, they are indestructible!

Directly from their site. You can email them, then a nice lady (Libs) will contact you and you can discuss all the customization options (they offer a variety of leathers). It is a pity that their site is not that good.
Seriously, I really wonder why they are not more popular here.
I really don't remember how I was introduced to them many years ago, probably I have (again) TFL to blame!

Thanks, and same to you. They look super well built, and the price on them looks really good. One brand in my price range I can actually afford and look totally worth it. They really do need a better site. Hardly any pictures either such a shame. But thanks for the encouragement. Definitely going to think about options.

They’re Rivet Chinos from Epaulet. Unfortunately not always available as they switch through different fabrics throughout the year. I think you can probably special order them, they seem to do a lot of custom work.

yes, there was an extra charge for Horween, not that much though (I can't remember exactly).

I think it was around £20, I'd have to dig through a mountain of emails with Libs to find the exact amount. I'd recommend them, great boots.

I don’t think they had any other Horween options other than CXL, they keep the prices low, fair play to them.
