Naphtha didn't touch the other-hat-sweatband-stripe on my 7XCB. I'm thinking of trademarking it.

Bob is right, cleaning will not touch it......in fact it can actually make it more noticable.

It came in a period correct hat box complete with all the innards so I’ll forgo the hat condom for now

AND hat condoms are a good idea when boxing a hat too! Helps protect the hat from the effects of tha acids in the box itself.......

Besides coming with new hats I have purchased extra from the outlets and retailers (who tend to throw them away). I have also kind of made my own from lightweight acid free/pvc free plastic sheeting/large bags which can be purchased though Hobby Lobby. I cut up the bags for use....works fine.

My first *******. Unlined and delightfully thin and moldable felt. The hat is in wonderful condition other than an area around the circumference of the crown above the ribbon. The discolored area/stripe is even all the way around. Curious.

The outside natural light gives the most accurate rendering of the color. 2 1/2” brim and 5 5/8” open crown.

I couldn’t help but to compare it to my VS blue smoke that also arrived today:

Do most *******s have a 1 inch ribbon, or is it 5/8" or something else?

I thought that the one inch ribbon was one of the defining characteristics of the *******, but that’s just from anecdotal evidence.

Maybe it's just the angle, but some looked less than an inch to me.

A new to me Royal Stetson Not *******. The sweatband may be a replacement, as there are no store markings or PB markings, but it's a PB. Generous 5 1/2"+ open crown, 2 3/4" brim. The PB single brim stitch is there, along with the handwritten 122 block on the re-order tag, which is affixed over another one. The smaller re-order tag is orange. The size tag, which needs to be reinstalled, carries the Stetson name and 1/4. The felt is typical soft, buttery, and easily shaped felt. I had to tackle some verdigris in the felt, but that cleaned up pretty nice. There is a small rust stain on the ribbon, but I won't lose too much sleep over that.
