Post New Hats Here!

Royal Deluxe heathered two-tone. I need to comb through the Stetson ads thread to see if this model had a name. It has suffered at the teeth of critters to an extent, but fortunately not too bad and in out of the way locations (below the ribbon and behind the reed.

Very nice felt. Soft, dense, and easily shaped. This one took some steaming and brushing, but I think a bath may be in order when we get some warmer weather.

Beautiful! The crown is magnificent. Looks pretty tall too.

Great hat, Jim. I like the shape and the heather felt (well, two heather felts). I'm wondering how this is constructed. Are brim and crown separate pieces or just dyed separately?

Thanks, it's 5 1/2".

I'm convinced it's a light grey heather hood that was re-dipped in the darker color after felting, etc. if you peek behind the ribbon, you can make out the demarcation point, which is not a straight line and "fades" a bit from one color to the next. If you look at the brim edge in the pic, you can see how it's "wafered." You can see the light color looking edge on at the brim, sandwiched between the dark colors. There are also a couple areas of light moth grazing on the underside of the brim, where the critters ate through the dark and you can see the lighter color peeking through.

@steur

A couple more pics. The first shows the wafering in the brim edge. The second shows some lighter grey on the underside of the brim exposed by moth grazing. It looks like dirt or a stain, but it's not. It's the lighter color peeking through.

Vacuuming revealed more than I wanted to see, but a naphtha bath and brushing has perked it up enough that it's not as jealous of Joao's big brown hat as it once was.

Will probably cover up the glue remnants with a wider ribbon.

Nice improvement. The only naptha bath I have given was in a 5 gal. bucket which really wasn't wide enough for the cowboy hat I was cleaning. I need to get something wider more like a tub of some sort, maybe a dish pan, so I don't damage the brim. What did you use on this hat? Looks good. Thanks for posting.

Happy New Year everyone! First of all, wish you all the best in 2018 onwards!

Just to share my latest project that I just finished. Love to get some comments. Its a rabbit & hare felt in camel color, the ribbon is dark brown. 7 cm crown, dimensional cut on the sides. Diamond crease on the crown.

I like it. I really like the tall crown Fedoras.

Nora-Hüte, measures about 57.5 cm, probably early 1950s late 1940s. The condition of this hat is near NOS condition. The darker *** metal gray Velour is really fantastic same with the hat form. The hat appears to be made by the same company that made my Stefan Esders "Velour" which also has no company mark and no paper label. Nora-Hüte appears to be the Vienna hat shop that it was made for but I couldn't find anything about them.

Open Crown

Natural Light

Beautiful.

Hi there. Glad you like it. I feel the world needs more tall crowns. At least my part of the world. Trying to convert the rest of the Swedish population to feel the same way as I do. haha.

Ha, sounds like a big job. Good luck.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me this indicates the brim was dyed before it was trimmed to the desired width. A simple, yet effective way to reflect the color of the crown on the brim. Brilliant folks, those hatters!

Exactly, it adds to the two-tone effect.

Thanks! I did this one in a five-gallon bucket doing one brim edge at time, but I'll still have to deal with reshaping. I need to find a better container as well.

Thanks. If you find something that works for you I love to hear it.

Looks to be in pretty good shape overall. Loved the two tone felt when I saw it on Ebay. Glad it went to a good home.
