I've got a Lost Worlds leather pea coat and love it. Beautiful coat and the craftsmanship is top drawer.

This dude is thick, stiff, and feels like you're wearing armor. Great to wear but hop in the pickup and it periscopes your hat off. Any idea how long it might take for this jacket to become reasonably soft and flexible?

Bonus points if you've got one and done it.

There's a bunch of variables like the leather grade, how often, how long and in what weather you wear it.
I had the same experience and it took about a month of solid wearing for it to ease up to where it wouldn't periscope any longer.

They considerably soften up after wearing them in the rain. Also wear it at home while lounging around if you want to hasten things.

I have an used one that could still be softer but it isn’t unwearable.

On the body it’s never an issue. It takes extra effort when taking off and putting on and carrying around when not wearing it. But all my heavy weight jacket are like this. Heavy weight.

This is uncharted territory.
Are you willing to wear it everyday for longer than a run to the gas station?

We'll see. I've had the coat in my closet and worn it at special times thinking it was far too nice to be my daily driver but today was an epiphany day. The buttons will never be easy to use unless I give them all a workout (often) and it occurred to me at the same time that stashing this in the closet only ensures that it'll never become the jacket it could be.

Bringing this jacket to its full potential takes more than just money.

Yes. Heavy weight and heavy duty for sure.

I believe I'll go put that bad boy back on right now.

My estimate would be 100 hours to properly break it in; whether that is 200 days over a span of three years wearing the jacket for 30 minutes on each occasion or three weeks of wearing it 5-6 hours a day really depends on your style of living.

If you have grandkids leave it to them in your will ,they can finish the job for you,as you have no chance.

Why not accelerate break-in. Roll it up, sit on it at home etc.

Break-in by ‘normal’ wear is possible, of course, but will take forever. Plus, parts with a lot of movement (arms, lower back) will break in much faster than say the large panels of the back or at the front.
