Hello. My son is looking for a suit. His chest measures 32, his waist is 28 inches and his inside leg is 28 inches. Of course, as such a small size will be tricky to find, alterations might be necessary.

He wants a really standard 1950s/1960s British, three button, single breasted suit. it could be a two piece or a three piece. Ideally, it would the from the period after the waistband on the trouser had got lower, but before the lapels and trousers got too skinny. Black, grey or blue would be ideal but all would be considered.

Here are a couple of examples from the late 1950s:

I'll be interested to see if anyone's got something available. PM with anything you might have sitting around.

(P.S. If anyone's got a suit in that size available from an earlier period, let me know. I will show it to him in case he takes a liking to it)

But how high will the fashionable high waist actually be?

He has already picked some ties to wear with the suit (even though we haven't found it yet). His taste was perfect to go with the suit he wants: he targeted all my late fifties/early sixties ties in deep reds, with subtle details. They will be spot-on with a late fifties grey Burtons/Jacksons/Hepworths etc suit (and maybe a crisp white cotton Van Heusen shirt).

You might want to add the required shoulder width (or range thereof), since it's the one measurement that cannot be altered at all. The chest measurement has some however minor leeway, after all.

Guttersnipe: Fantastic. I've stuck in a bid. Thanks for that. It's a lovely suit. I didn't think of checking US Ebay!

Here's a boys suit from the Kays catalogue in 1953:

Here's the suit in question:

So I would think the early fifties is a pretty good estimation.
