What a great story. This reminds me of an old barber named Vinny that I used to go to that is a long time friend of my wife's family. He was also the one that gave my son his first haircut. He is a WW II Navy veteran and was the ship's barber on a destroyer and served in the Pacific during the war, and has some interesting stories about his time in the service. He just retired at 89 because he had to close his shop when the Army closed Fort Monmouth and lost most of his business. His shop looked like it could have been used for a Norman Rockwell painting.
