This was great, thanks for sharing it! I was always amazed at the number of costumes on Downton Abbey--everything makes much more sense now that I know they're recycling it all. And I think Michelle Dockery wins most of those battles.

The many Dickens and Austen productions, those based on Anthony Trollope's novels, frequently re-use costumes as well. If there's a period, there's a foundation of costuming for it.

It makes so much sense now! I always wondered how high the costume budget must be on Downton Abbey for there to be so many different outfits.

I guess it's not so uncommon to use costumes and dresses that already have been used. They did that in Hollywood from the very beginning, so why should they stop now? It's the same with props and backdrops.
It's very interesting to see how different stars look in the same outfit, don't you think?
