Here in one of my favorite "sides" featuring those boys from Scranton:

Wow, this is totally new to me. I've always associated Tommy Dorsey with a sort of generic, white-bread swing, but this is obviously earlier, more my speed. Thanks for opening my eyes.

Anyone what doesn't like the Dorseys is MY EMENY!!!
But seriously, the Dorseys definitely could swing. Was it Toscanini that said Tommy was the finest trombonist in the world?
And Jimmy was respected as a jazz musician by just about everybody. Supposedly Charlie Parker was listening to a Jimmy Dorsey record when he died.

Have you ever seen the movie: New York New York? Robert De Nero walks into a dance club in Time Square, and, and, and. The point is, although the film was made in 1977, the scene was set on VE day, 1945, the band playing was supposedly, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Were they playing, or miming to the real deal?

That's almost certainly a modern band doing the original Dorsey Brothers chart. I don't think hi fidelity recordings of the original band exist where it would have been played it in that style.
