Hello everryone. I would be really curious to know your opinion on the matter and for those who have succeeded, how many hours of wear do you think were necessary?

There must be dozens of threads on this topic.
Ok sorry, so you can forget my post, all I had seen in the many posts I went through was that the subject was frequently mentioned in threads with different subjects but never a specific thread. Sorry again you can delete the thread if you wish.

Another will not do any harm. Don't worry.

This one is a good racing shirt fit with Tea core coming through nicely.
I know what you mean / are concerned(?) about, however with the right temperature (British Summer) and fit it works for me as a thick(er) second skin (which can be useful with the amount of us grumpy old gets about).

I agree, another thread won't hurt.

Yes, this leather type is thick and heavy, but it does break in, and once it hits body temperature, it moves quite nicely. If it's freezing out, it will likely get very stiff due to the oils in the leather.

Here is my newer Johnson leather with a few months of wear.

Some of my older Aero jackets have relaxed and aren't stiff self-standers anymore, they drape naturally and they are very comfortable. But I have no idea how long it took to get them that way, as they came to me in that condition. I expect if you dedicate yourself to wearing one jacket exclusively and daily, you can find out. I believe it doesn't take that long if you wear all day, but it a different story if you wear it only briefly when commuting in the morning and evening, and rotate it with other jackets you own.

I have been coming round to this point of view too.
We see the best grain, drape and beautiful wear on jackets that have been worn in the weather, hard.
All weather riding does this and wearing just a few jackets regularly.
I am getting my movers moving.

We feel a kind of taboo on this subject, particularly because of the lobbying of influencers who are under the influence of aero leather, who pay them to promote their historic leather. We also have quite a few examples of these famous lobbyists on TFL.

Who would that be?

I always hated CXL, as boot leather but especially as jacket leather. I do not understand why someone would want to wear material that's stiff as a board, while you could also wear something comfortable. But different strokes for different folks.

@MrProper is one of them, for example. He is on all social media promoting aero leather jackets. Surely he doesn't do this for free!?!?

I would be surprised if @MrProper gets discounts from Aero, let alone if he got jackets for free. These are not mass produced fashion jackets. Aero is a small family run company and profit margins are thin.

It's companies like MastersupplyCo who sponsor influencers. Their jackets are mass produced in Pakistani and the markup is huge.

Didn't @Canuck Panda had Johnson Leathers make a trucker with cordovan panels?
I'd love to see it if he did.

I could envision an intricate East-West MI style jacket with shell accents like you own Marc.
yup that’s me but it’s not the expensive shell cordovan, only butt strips, so the small section between the front quarters and the two round butts. Butts or shells are extremely expensive, like more than 10 times the price of the front quarters. The butt strips are same price as the front quarters but additional skiving cost is needed to bring them down to garment weight.
the closer you get to the butt the leather changes from fibrous to membrane right that’s what gives shells that unique look and texture which sometimes can be found on butt strips too.

a skived down butt strip Musical jacket would be really cool. Butt strips are under utilized. A lot of them ends up as blade sharpening leather, some make their way into boots or what not, some are made into belts. The narrow and long shapes is difficult for jackets with big panels but perfect for multipanel designs like EastWest or truckers.

@MrProper is one of them, for example. He is on all social media promoting aero leather jackets. Surely he doesn't do this for free!?!?
I don’t think he gets paid. He just likes Aero more than other brands at the moment.

I am gonna assume everyone has their favourite brands. Sometimes I don’t agree with what are said. But I’m always grateful for all the pics they posts. These jackets are so niches regardless of brands. The more info I can get the better choice I can make on the new/used market. It is still up to ourselves to process all the information before making any decisions. But I always prefer pics over an essay regardless of brands.
