Or why I miss the Golden Age vs. todays junk!

They're all alive, in old movies
See them, even though they're gone
Can you remember Jimmy Durante?
His eyes glisten in the lights
Mrs. Calabash, goodnight, wherever you are
You can't be gone, you can't be gone, well not on my T.V.

Time just stands still in old movies
Love them, even though they're gone
Jack Benny's 39
Bogart's doing time
Wallace Berry's just the same
Still bugging Marjorie Maine
Oh, Marjorie Maine
You can't be gone, you can't be gone
Well not on my T.V.

His eyes glisten in the lights
Mrs. Calabash, goodnight, wherever you are
You can't be gone, you can't be gone, well not on my T.V.

I have a certain affection for Star Trek, even though Star Trek, The Next Generation far surpassed the original show in writing, production values, and even--eventually--acting.

Watching Helen Mirren in "Prime Suspect" was a wake-up call. I hadn't realized that it was even possible for TV to be that good.

"Burke's Law" was one of my favorites as a kid, though now when I watch it on tape, it's pretty painful. "Twilight Zone," of course, and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," and, for some reason, "Bronco." I was only about two, but I remember loving it. I loved the theme song for "77 Sunset Strip." But my favorite show of all time remains "The Avengers."

My favorites from the 50's and 60's are:
I Love Lucy
Leave It To Beaver
Father Knows Best
The Twilight Zone (my absolute favorite form this era)
The Munsters
The Addams Family

Something else I liked to watch on TV, even though it was not originally a TV show, where the Three Stooges. I remember watching them every Sunday morning before church.

Of course, I also have a few "guilty pleasure" shows that I like to watch that I don't dare mention here. Best to keep those secret lest I be banished. ;)

Amos 'n Andy.

I have all the existing television episodes on video tape and I will upgrade to DVD soon.

IMO, the funniest show that ever was. I can watch it over and over. Despite the controversy at the time, it was well written and acted, had a good, kind heart and was the first show to have a predominantly black cast. It even featured an episode which would have been considered to have a too heavily-handed Christian theme by today's standards.

When it was cancelled a lot of fine black actors had no work for years and years to come. Yet another misguided crusade by the NAACP.

Dr. Smith on "Lost in Space" underwent one of the more stunning character arcs in TV history: he started out being a cold-hearted, murderous Eastern bloc spy, and then transformed into Franklin Pangborn.

Many of the great ones have been listed already but I will cast my selections.....
Daniel Boone
Andy Griffith Show
Hogans Heroes
Rawhide
Rat Patrol
Zorro
Boy, these choices must put us all within the same age bracket.....these shows are just as enjoyable to watch today as they were then........Guess my "gear itis" started early on with Daniel Boone. Every year I tried to improve on my costume......for me it was all about details.

My wife and I used to watch All in the Family and Carol Burnett on NIck at Night...hilarious.

I still watch Bonanza and Leave It To Beaver when I grade papers at the bar my buddy keeps...only Coca Cola for me...teatotaler to the nth degree.

I used to love Alfred Hitchcock and now I really like CSI.

I just watched a Dick Van Dyke tribute/reunion show. Boy, did he wear some stingy-brimmed fedoras back in the 60s. And what was up with Buddy's hat? Looked like an inverted bucket!

[Contemplating a solid gold stove]
Kelly: I can just imagine the look on their faces when we unload a million dollars worth of stove on them. 875 pounds worth.
Scotty: Yeah.
Kelly: Suppose by the time it got to Internal Revenue it only weighed 800 pounds?
Scotty: See what you mean. Well the lid's loose, maybe the damper door?
Kelly: 75 lbs of gold must be worth a lot of money.
Scotty: Seventy-two thousand.
Kelly: Already figured it out, huh?
Scott: Yeah. $60 an ounce on the Chinese black market. I think I can get $70 an ounce. I know a guy...
Kelly: $70 an ounce! Whew. A couple of one-way tickets to Tahiti would scarcely put a dent in it!
Scotty: No sir. Have you ever seen a Taihitian hula? [Sings] Do-dump-de-dumpdy... You take the door and I'll take the lid.
Kelly: While we're at it we may want to hack off a couple of legs. We may want to entertain!
Scott: Right!
Kelly: No, we'd only lose our pension benefits.
Scotty: Think we'd lose our jobs?
Kelly: Yeah. Such wonderful jobs too.
Scotty: And the hospitalization is free.
Kelly: All those wonderful orthopedic devices.
Scotty: I just love plaster of paris.
Kelly: Right.
