Where are all the vintage caps?

Where are all the eight piece caps?

Everytime I look at a catalog from the 20's or 30's I see a myriad of 8 piece caps and driving caps with full crowns. I know a friend who has a vintage 8 piece cap, and the ones I own are modern.

Fedoras from the golden era are all over the place -- where did the caps go?
