When Old Men Talk/Sacrifices

Stopped in a place the other day to get a bite to eat. Small place so close to 2 old men chatting.
I heard 2 stories that touched my heart.
One was all about when they played football about 60 to 70 years ago. These men remembered every play and every score. Spoke of playing on fields where only 1 high school had lights for night games.
So reminded me of my father talking when during the depression the football team he was on had to hitchhike to games.

Then of course they started talking about the War. I sat there with tears in my eyes hearing the stories. Such sacrifices.
Told of a troop train after the war coming into I think California. All the men from the Pacific on the train had not eaten much for about 11 days.
I think it was the end of the War as they said any of the men could at that point have any food they wanted to celebrate. Pheasant under glass..anything.
They so had starved that all of the men could only eat milk and a biscuit with butter.

It spoke volumes to me and reminded me of the last generations that did make huge sacrifices to have what we have in the USA.
I am sure same around the world but just made me extremely grateful.
Be nice to a Senior citizen today. :)

I alway listen when someone older than I speaks. You never know what part of history they may share & if you remember it they are at least immortal for that much longer. Some stories I've heard from WWII vets have been amazing. The way they tell it, it almost makes you feel as though you were there with them. The ones I got to be friends with were amazed at how much older I seemed than I appeared. They would talk to me as though I was there age and they would reveal far more history than if they were talking to any of my other friends. It's a very enriching experience and it is probably why I enjoy being around folks much older than I.

Thanks for sharing your experience with those folks, most appreciated.

Cheers!

Dan
