What's Your Favorite WWII Era Uniform?

There is also the added "I want a medal too!" incentive which should not be discounted. If you see a bunch of guys with the Iron Cross and you don't have one, it might motivate you to get such an award yourself, furthering the war effort along the way.
Bingo, VB; as a former psych student, I think you nailed it. Of course, this just illustrates the old saying:
"Give me enough medals and I'll win you any war."--Napoleon

call me a collaborator....but....to me, nothing beats a dress German uniform. Shiny jackboots. Just love it.

Hubby has a black Panzer wrap (tankers uniform). And he looks amazing in it. Doesn't wear it too often though because people think it's the political uniform and he's always trying to explain that it's just a tankers uniform and it's black because of all the grease, etc.
Odd piece of trivia- some German Uniforms were designed by none other than Hugo Boss. Not much of a surprise, given the sharp, tailored look that Boss is known for to this day...

Got any pics to prove it, Alan?
I am all blank on spanish uniforms:eusa_doh:

Spitfire,

Sorry, I'm old fashioned. I tend to use reference libraries and museums for research (it gets me out of the house) so I don't have any images. You might do a Boodle search on the Interweb or whatever it's called.

I was thinking of Spanish Foreign Legion officers' dress uniform. It featured a green cape with a white silk lining, matching breeches with brown riding boots, a tunic with double 'Sam Browne' and a piped side cap with a tassel. I believe that a walking cane was also a part of the uniform.

The Italians also had some stylish uniforms, as did the Colonial French.

You are right, Alan.
My deffinition of "stylish" is the opposite to "effective".
Your desciption of the spanish uniform is a very good example;)

That's why I choose the mixture of RAF uniforms too.
Not the most matching pieces, maybe not even the most effective either - but put together they gave a "stylish" look, like nothing else. IMO.
Just imagine having a long dressjacket underneath the short Irvin.:D

Even the Brass picked up the style.

Since we are talking "Golden Era" and not strictly WWII, I am going to throw in what were the best looking American uniforms that have existed and almost certainly will ever exist; the WWI American uniforms.

Not only did the uniforms look distinctly "American" as opposed to the other major powers at the time, but they looked incredible in both their enlisted and officer, dress and field variations. In fact, the best part was that there was no special "dress" uniform, something I always greatly admire.

If they brought these uniforms back I would enlist tomorrow!

Why do you think uniforms are planned to look good? :)

Isn't one of the purposes of having a uniform to look good? Of course some uniforms are designed not to be, prison uniforms and the like, but military uniforms throughout history have always been created with at least some thought to aethetics.
