I saw this jacket today at Robinson's-May. I really like that style and I'm wondering what the name for it is because I'd like to buy one...just not buying that one...it was $400!!! Forget that!

I apologize for the abd picture quality, but my camera's pictures come out poorly when I have the flash off and I wanted it off because I was in a store.

What are they running? Were there other colors?

Mojave Jack, I've also seen this one at Robinson's-May. It's made by Polo Ralph Lauren, which explains the high price tag: about $400. There were no other colors or fabrics: only off-white, and only linen. The lapels are skinny and the fabric is loose and floppy. It's fully lined in white nylon satin. The fit itself is on the tighter side: unpadded shoulders and narrower sleeves. The quality? Okay, but nothing special. It really looks like an early 1960s version of a Norfolk jacket.

I wasn't terribly impresed with it myself but it aroused my fondness for that type of jacket. I just thought it was interesting that they'd have it in a department store. I would hope to find that kind of jacket in a khaki, canvas material. I would like to use it for outdoorsy apparel. :)

Ah. Good to know. I guess I won't spend too much time hunting it up then! A khaki canvas version would be great, I agree. Most I've seen are tweed, except when I saw a guy in the airport once that was wearing a grey flannel version. It looked really sharp. I should have asked him about it.

Is it just me or am I seeing outdoor-style jackets alot more these days?
I just walked into Brooks Bros. last week and picked up their photo-catalogue and the guy on the back cover is wearing a safari-type jacket. And that whole thread about J. Peterman's current collection!
It may just be due to the color, but that Norfolk jacket reminds me of Johnny Depp's safari jacket from Blow (I think it was Blow...it was the drug-dealer in the 70's movie).

I don't think it's just you, Ghost. We're settin' the pace!

I do think that just like tie widths and the number of buttons on a suit coat, these things peak and ebb. Those of us who love the safari style had better stock up! Pretty soon it will be displaced by a reurgence in wearing your pants halfway down your backside or a couple dozen huge gold chains around your neck. I pity the fool that doesn't like that style!

I saw one of these jackets in a film recently, an old film, though, which one escapes me. In any case, it was a tweed number and it was worn beneath an Inverness Cape; a very stylish look.
