I've just started using Bobbi Brown lipstick in Red Carpet. It's a really lovely, bright red. Doesn't stay on too long, but the texture is wonderful and has a nice matte finish.

I like really dry matte lipsticks as I hate to reapply, the two that I really love are Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hour Lipstick in Continuous Cranberry and Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw. The Kat Von D lipstick is amazing as it truly last all day with minimal wear. A lot of time I will use the Kat Von D lipstick as a base for my less long wearing red lipsticks.

I just bought one of the nyx matte lip creams today on a whim. it goes on like a gloss, well a mousse really, with a wand. I got san paulo which looks like a dark dusky rose in the tube--a dark "your lips" color, but on me it looks more like a muted Cherries in the snow. Aside from the color difference, it's very pigmented, the application is nice and creamy, and 5ish hours later it's still on, albeit very dry since it is matte. I'm going to get some of the other colors too. Oh and it was around $5, so not too bad

I don't know why it is so difficult to find a red red, not a pinkish red, an orangish red or a purplish one... And I guess it's even more difficult to find a cruelty-free one... I'll let you know if I find an alternative option.

Nana - Most reds are blue-based because they want to make your teeth appear whiter. Brown-based reds often bring out surrounding yellows and browns. It's usually best to look for more red-toned browns and mauves, or mix a couple lipsticks to create your own.

Personally I'm loving the Kate line from Rimmel, in the red tubes. It's a great line for matte lipstick, and it works amazingly well with Lipcote. Rimmel's coming out with a shade called Red Nose Red (for Red Nose Day) in the black-tube version (more moisturized), and it looks amazing. Otherwise, I have some that I love from Revlon and Almay, but Revlon is my favorite for moisturizing lipsticks. If you want cruelty-free, I suggest ELF, though their Essentials lipstick in red looks more mauve in the photos. Depending on your skin tone, it may be just right. Sadly, their Mineral lipstick has mostly mauves and pinks. The Studio Moisturizing lipstick does have a nice red; it is blue based, but not as harshly blue as their other reds. I'd say check that out in store if you are near a place that actually has a good stock of ELF products.

Thank you for your advice! I have an olive skin tone, so I try to avoid certain undertones, specially pinks, that make my face look even more greenish. I use a matte brick red lipstick from my local store, and I really like it, but it's not red enough for a vintage look... I'll try to combine two! Thanks!

I have a somewhat Asian skin tone, so I understand where you're coming from. Unless you're re-enacting, I suggest going with what works for you. Depending on your chosen decade, you may have more than just red that's accessible. Red was a common wartime color, but the later 40s had more options. Also, brick red was a vintage color. I don't always use Glamourdaze as my go-to source, but there are some nice guides.

Red #40! No, really. That's what I tell people when they ask what I'm wearing. :D I refill those felt-tipped lip stain pens with red food color (which is what they basically contain) tinged with a little green to brown it down a bit. I use the paste color and dilute it with alcohol and use a tiny funnel to fill. Alcohol is a bit drying, but I have a lot of glosses and creamy lip pencils and lip oils and whatnot to alter the color to complement what I'm wearing. Lip gloss hoarding is my vice. Oh, and I have a purpley color pen for when I do flapper makeup.

Like venusop, I also use and LOVE the Nyx Matte Lip Cream! I own many colors: San Paolo, Ibiza, Prague.. but not actually a red. They do HAVE lovely looking reds, however (my sister uses them!), and I can attest for the usability and great wearing of this product. My RED reds are from Sephora's own line, the Cream Lip Stain, and I wear both "Strawberry Kissed" (a more pinky red, my favorite) and "Always Red" (a very classic, true red). They're awesome, and generally stay put until you eat something with oil.

Also, this is a product I haven't bought yet due to the initial costs (around $40 I think? For color + sealer, then afterwards colors are separate for less) - BUT I would LOVE to get LipSense! It's what Christina Aguilera wears on stage, apparently. I've tried it in person once and I can say that NOTHING will take it off.. I put some on my hand and asked my boyfriend to try his hardest to rub it off and not a stitch budged. You can only remove it with rubbing alcohol, I think, and even then not always entirely. Good for day of, bad for day after LOL. That's the red I'm lusting after most at the moment! And they have TONS of reds (and just tons of colors in general), so one to suit every skin tone :)

I'm very picky about my red lipsticks, but shockingly just found a cheap one from H&M!:)
It's a very rich, dark matte red and the name of the shade is Dita, which seems very appropriate.

I know it's been mentioned in this thread before, but Stila's Stay All Day liquid lipstick in Fiery. I tried it for the first time today, and oh my goodness. It dried to a beautiful matte, and it stayed on though everything - multiple cups of tea, a cigarette or two (I know, bad me) and even a shower. Odd to shower with lipstick on, I know, but I wanted to give it a good test run. After all that, it was still on very well. Had I been going out, I probably would have touched it up some, but at that point I had had it on for hours and it still looked fantastic.

There was slight transference to my tea cup, but while it showed up on the cup it was faint and didn't noticibly diminish the colour off of my lips. It came off quite easily with cold cream. The only con that I've found so far is that you have to be quite careful putting it on, but that's true of a lot of red lipsticks.

Jeffree star cosmetics liquid lipstick in unicorn blood.

As a blond with very fair skin it's very hard to find a good red.
This is just right.
Doesn't budge, very matte and just the right color for me.

One downside, it does have that slight tingly feeling. Not too fond of that but it does go away after a while.

Maybelline’s new line of Colour Sensational lipsticks in the “For Me” colors were tested on 50 different skin tones and were found to be flattering. I picked up Ruby For Me as it won the Allure Award for best red lipstick of 2020.

It has a nice, slight semi floral smell and taste. The formula is moisturizing and has a satin finish. I love it on my light, olive ish Asian skin tone!

I have two new favorites both are long wear in tube format, not liquid, they don't dry out my lips but they do leave a bit behind on cups. I reenact so I need my red to stay on for hours and both of these do. HUDA Beauty power bullet lipstick in Cinco De Mayo, it is a true scarlet red, and Too Faced Lady Bold lipstick in Unafraid, it is a poppy red. Both stay on for hours and don't dry my skin, the too faced lipstick does stain my lips a nice pink for about 24 hours after I take it off.

Goodness.

Talk about a blast from the past. I've missed this forum. Glad to see that it's still functional even if less active than it used to be. I'll definitely attempt to peek in more often.

My newest purchase was NYX's kitten heels. Definitely digging it, but did notice some rub off on the inside of my mask.

Can a man answer here as well?
Not for myself but for the shades which i like seeing on my other half.

I don't mind if you do, since it will be interesting hearing a man's perspective, but the other's may want to just keep this ladies only so hopefully others will chime in as well. Of course, the ladies section is rather inactive, so I suppose no one will notice if you did. :-D

I find myself always grabbing Lime Crime's New Americana. It is a bright rich red that doesn't lean towards another color (too orange, too blue, too purple, too brown, etc) just a pure red. I wear this one more than any other color from Lime Crime (and believe me I own ALL their reds) or any other red lipstick I own.

I know a handful of years ago Lime Crime had scandals with Doe Deere, but now that she is no longer involved in ownership, I feel that any controversy or scandal shouldn't be applied to the company now. I did want to mention it though in case others here do take that into consideration.
