What is your favorite red lipstick brand/shade?

Stray Cat

My Mail is Forwarded Here
Wow, what a lovely lippy Stray Cat! I bought something similar lately that has little flecks like yours, I'd never heard of the company before, Kiko.
Thank you, dear.
I can't say I ever hear about Kiko. [huh] What's it like? Smooth, creamy?

I just found the perfect Holy Grail red lipstick (for me) at CVS: NYC Sheer Red. I don't think it would work for you ladies who like a bright red lip, but it's exactly what I've been looking for. It's a true blue-red, very moist, rather matte, and sheer enough not to be too obvious.
A bit too dark for me, since I'm way to pale for any deep-red shade. But, a wonderful color St.Lous! I'm glad you like it... and it's a bargain! :thumb:

I used to be a dedicated Ruby Woo user, but have recently branched out to other lipsticks by MAC. Viva Glam I has become my new go-to red, as it's more subtle and less bright than Ruby Woo, making it more wearable for daytime.

My go-to red is Estee Lauder re-nutriv in Moroccan Poppy which has sadly been discontinued. If anyone knows of a dupe I would be inredibly grateful!

Success! since this post had it fresh in my mind I took my lipstick into priceline today and literally swatched all the appropriate reds on my hand to find a dupe! Turned out the closest match was the first one I tried which is Really Red by Revlon and it's almost exact - the revlon is just slightly lighter and is a different texture (its a matte whereas the estee lauder is a satin) but I couldnt be happier with it :) Unfortunately loads of reds go pink on me and look awful (including Ruby Woo!!!) so it's really tricky for me to find reds that don't jar with my colouring. Very happy girl now :)

You should buy ten tubes immediately! I just went back to CVS where I found my "holy grail" lipstick and discovered that there was only one tube left in the rack. I have some kind of really terrible lipstick luck: every time I love a color it is instantly discontinued. In this case, I wonder, though -- the NYC and NYX lines are so new to CVS (and CVS is new to the Middle West) that I wonder whether it wasn't just very, very popular in my part of town?

True - I actually just looked it up and that colour HAS been discontinued! talk about terrible lipstick luck! WHY!?!? don't they realise there are girls out there with yellow undertones that need red lipstick too! I would definitely check if its been discontinued on the website if I were you just in case :)

Do you ladies have any advice on lip stains?

I want to start wearing "lipstick" again, but I need something toddler proof. :) I think a stain is the way to go, but I'm a bit overwhelmed at finding a good one.

I have an Ulta and Sephora and all the major U.S. chains here.

ETA: I want a red color. Actually, a plum, a deep red, and a bright red. No, I am not fussy at all. ;) My poor revlons are sitting unused in my cabinet.

I've heard really good things about Korres lip butters http://www.korres.com/default.aspx?page_id=279, i've used the stila stains before and liked them but they're a little pricier - id also recommend you try them out first as I dont think they're for everyone and the colours tend to turn. If you want something a little brighter then you could try one of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics lip tars ( http://occmakeup.com/products/lip-tar-matte )- they're supposed to sort of set and be transfer proof but they come in loads of colours and are supposed to go a really long way so you could quickly swipe a little on and not have to worry the rest of the day, whereas even the best stains tend to get a bit patchy when they fade...

Thank you! Sephora carries Obsessive Complusive! So I may head there this afternoon! :)

Well I splurged, because I used to have Revlon lipstick but it made my lips feel really dry. So I went and got myself Dior Rouge Flamboyant Blazing Red...I haven't worn it for a while, and I really miss it.

Just bought Chili by MAC which is one of their matte lipsticks, and the liner Auburn to go with it. I'm actually loving it, as I said in an earlier post most red lipsticks go pink on me so i really need an orange or brown undertone and this one is gorgeous. It's a dark, terracotta sort of red and I really like it as a winter colour or a vampy colour for night. I also find it goes on A LOT smoother than my ruby woo, which was drying right from the start. really excited I know how have three whole reds that suit me haha!

I really recommend it! that and Really Red which is a matte by Revlon - its a little brighter than the MAC and is good for summer or as a lighter daywear colour :) I am SO happy I figured out I needed an orange base - I think so many of us who think maybe red isn't for us just need to figure that out ! Its a shame they always say if you get a blue-base or a true red it will suit everyone - no colour suits everyone and if you have yellow undertones they almost always go fushia!

I like Chili too! It's nice to have a less bright red in the arsenal. I have a hard time finding reds that read as pure red on me, without obvious undertones. Blue-based reds turn almost fuchsia on me too, there aren't that many yellow-based reds around and many of them are VERY yellow. I've ended up with a solution where I use a blue-based red lip pencil as a base on my entire lips, Isadora Ruby Red or sometimes MAC Cherry, and follow with a yellow-based matte lipstick, MAC Lady Danger. The combination reads as a true, neutral red on me.

If I want a brighter, more yellow red, I'll switch to a brighter lip pencil - I really love that about Isadora's lip liners, they have not one, but three bright red lip liners, one yellow-based and rather light in colour, one neutral, bright red and one slightly darker, blue-based red. I own and wear all three. Inexpensive and the quality is comparable to MAC, I find.

I am using Urban Decay's F-bomb as my red now. Mostly because it actually had a matching lip liner. I had never used lip liner before and boy does it make a difference!
But my absolute favorite non-red shade is Dusty Rose by Besame!

I'm so excited. While at CVS today to pick up my over the counter coma inducing cold medicine, I noticed that the lipstick I thought had been discontinued was staring me in the face. I bought all three tubes they had left, and she said she should get more in on Friday. Oh Revlon's Color Stay Top Tomato... how I missed you...
