What color hat to wear with a blue suit?

I have avoided blue suits somewhat because I can't really think of a good hat to wear with them. Black and grey go with the greyscale, and brown goes with earth tones and olives, but both look kind of funny with navy, unless I'm wearing a tan shirt or tie to balence out the hat.

Well, my fellow "Law & Order" fan, I personally wear both brown and gray. My gray hat is pretty light and I think it goes nicely. There are, of course, navy fedoras and grays that are so blue they almost seem blue.

Good luck in your search!

If you're talking navy blue just look at what color pants go with a navy blazer. All shades of gray, burgundy and medium brown. Think of what pants go with a sky blue shirt and no jacket- the same colors.

Gray is it.

Black, NO. The best are Gray (like a blue blazer with gray slacks). Some browns work. Blue, if in the same range, is ok. I sometimes think the Gray is the best.

Andykev,

You are wearing a blue shirt and tie in your avatar, and what appears to be an unbleached (and pretty spiffy) panama. Ergo, wouldn't white or cream also work.

I think so.

A straw goes with anything, the felt has choices.

Yes, I am wearing a panama straw with a blue long sleeve dress shirt, button down collar, and blue tie. I think it compliments my beautiful blue eyes:p

The question was a blue suit and a "felt" hat, as I understood the question. Yep, I have dressed and looked in the mirror, and played musical hats...trying one and then another. I have over sixty..so many to choose from.

The STRAW hat on the other hand, in my most humble opinion, goes with everything, plaid shirt, hawiian shirt, polo shirt, blazer, suit, linnen suit, palm beach suit.....because of the season. The FELT hat , well you have to coordinate it like you do your shoes.

Blue hat with blue suit

I saw a Navy blue fedora recently in a catalog and it looked really neat! Problem with it is what color suit will it match? Blue, of course...

yes...that works also.

Good , but I don't see many brown pin striped. Art had a beautiful 40's vintage pin stripe in brown, the stripes were burgundy. Too bad, it was a 38 regular. I wear a 44.

In a fur felt hat, what is the lightest color available? White, cream, Ivory?

If there was a light color it may go well with the blue suit.

(Some shine off of your blue serge suit. No relflection on you, just the suit.)

I'd stick with gray for a conservative, classy look.
From your questions about colors, I'd guess your looking for something in a light shade?
I would go for a light pearl gray. I'd avoid white or ivory so you don't end up looking like Al Capone.
A really classic look would be a midnight blue homburg, but that look is a little hard to pull off these days.

Look at my Avitar and see ;) . (it was tempting). Acually, I have seen grey, brown, straw, and black with a blue suit all very sharp. Black is my favorite like James Bond in the books.

I'm considering bidding on a new blue suit on eBay (can't post a link, right, new rules?) that's pretty much a pretty loud dark blue with silver pinstripes. Right now I have a black and a light tan (both wide brimmed) a chocolate that's short brimmed, and two cheap hats I bought on the streets that are more sporty, one's tweed and one's khaki. It looks like I'm going to need a new hat if I get this number, correct?
