Hello Loungers,

I am in search of 2 or 3 metal ice cube trays. Would prefer to buy a set to only pay shipping once. If anyone has some extras they're looking to get rid of, please let me know. I'm happy to negotiate a fair price. Thanks!

O.T. I actually got my tongue stuck to one of those when I was a kid.

Thanks!

I'll remember this stuff about sticking to the trays. Of course, unless the booze cocktails REALLY get flowing, it shouldn't be an issue lol

p.s. I know I can get them on Ebay. Figured I'd just check here first!

We do have some, but to be honest they are the Father in Law's and not mine to sell. He is supposed to be coming over sometime this Spring to get rid of all his stuff in our basement, though they've been wrapped up for the last 15 odd years. I just know the weekend after I send them to you he'll come wanting them. If you can wait I'll ask him if he still wants them. I don't know how soon I will talk to him though, how soon did you want them?

Here's a pic of what is there (to whet your appetite :D)

Ooh those are lovely! It's no big hurry, really. Thanks, Josephine!

Hi,

I'll look as well. I have a set of four like those pictured, with the levers, and another set of three without - you use a screwdriver to pry. I think they're older than the ones with the levers.

We moved three years ago, and some stuff is still boxed. If they're in there, they're yours. I *might* have tossed them, though, at the time of the move. I just can't recall. I took a dumptruck load of scrap aluminum to the scrap yard at the time, and I might have tossed them in. I was cleaning out the ex-race shop and had a lot of aluminum motorcycle engine bits that had to go....

Later!

Im looking for some too, Ive found some nice ones on eBay. Pretty cheap.

I've found plenty that I'm watching on Ebay, but I figured I'd check here. Ebay sucks and I'm trying to avoid filling their pockets.

Hi,

Looks like you might have to break down and try eBay. I went thru all the boxes still on the shelves from the move. Mostly books, as we still need to convert the 3rd bedroom into a library by making the shelving.

No ice cube trays, though. :(

Buyer beware

I bought one of those several years ago based on looks alone. I eventually threw it out - they're VERY difficult to handle. The metal lever to release the cubes gets frozen, and the ice tends to shatter into shards when forcing the lever up to separate the ice from the metal partitions. It's quaint, but not the most practical way to make ice. Just a warning.

I have two somewhere. I tried them and couldn't get the ice to come out so I don't want them. You can have them if I can find them. I'll look tonight but it might take me a day or so. No promises?

In order to not break them, you just have to fill them less, you know. If you fill the whole thing up the lever won't break the ice. Just takes a little finagling.

Thank you!!!! It is so rare to see that phrase used correctly! Usually when someone tries to use it they say "to wet your appetite." :eusa_doh:

Drives me nuts! :p

Cheers,
Tom

Whet vs Wet

Hi,

Well, as far as whet goes, it means to sharpen.

Ironically, the word appears, to me anyway, to have been adulterated into this spelling 'whet' from 'wet' at some point.

Probably way back when they were sharpening swords on a daily basis!

When using a stone to sharpen steel, you want it to be wet. As in with water or oil, for the finest edge. Dry stones abrade the metal too quickly and tend to make for a ragged edge.

Plus if you're using a powered stone, as in a wheel, you have to deal with the heat of grinding. Water is great for cooling. These days, we use water-soluable oil and get the best of both! :)

The hand stones used for dressing cutting edges are still called 'whet stones', and they're wetted with oil, but I'll bet real money that they were originally 'wet stones', wetted with water! lol

Anyway, sorry for the :eek:fftopic: post, but I couldn't resist! :D

Later!

Stan
