Really an excellent example of a whippet of this vintage-1940s early 50s.

Yes, mr j, there is light perspiration ring partially on liner in one area.Minimal.
This hat is vintage,not new,in very excellent condition. Thank you for pointing that out.

This is a very nice example of a classic Whippet, stamped leather sweatband, exceptional quality of fur felt and the color which is a Blu/black.

This hat is an amazing looking hat. I sure wish I needed another black hat, but may even be selling it as it just is not getting worn all that much. I am sure this hat of yours well sell, you don't see black whippets often and this one is so very nice looking.

I have to think Ol' JBS did have his hand in this hat, it is vintage and stetson, rare in color, (find another vintage whippet in black, please)? The price is far from outer space on this hat, and if you want to compare money look at what you may spend on having a hat made, and not knocking any custom made hat, but I would not trade some of my nicer vintage hats for anything any one of the best known custom hat makers, make. True statement there as I have been offered custom made hats for my vintage hats and declined. And take note, some custom hat makers have a price that "starts" higher for their hats, then the price tag for this one.

Now also not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings no buyer's feelings or even any one just eye balling this hat, but, if the price is more than what you can afford, you won't need to worry about the price....and if the price is what you can afford, you won't be worried about it as well.

I have two fairly rare vintage hats, if I placed either of them in the classifieds here, the price I would ask is much more than what this whippet is being showcased for.

Some not as rare whippets sold for right about the same neighborhood price wise as this whippet, (eBay auctions recently) and have to state, not even close to being as clean or as rare as this one is, due to it's color, etc.

Daniel, my personal experience is a little different to yours.

I've had a number of Whippets and still have 2 (both about 1951 and older than Bond's) and I can assure you that custom hats from a good hatmaker such as Art or Graham from Optimo are better quality in every respect.

Remember Whippets were pretty much at the bottom of Stetson's quality scale so the felt is just OK and probably contains zero beaver. Not as nice as the 100% beaver felt hats we can get custom made today.

The Whippet is a great design though, one of my favorites to be sure. I wouldn't be spending more than a couple of hundred dollars on one though.

As much as there may be debate about hats, prices, rarity, etc., I think that it best to not further that line of thought in someone's "sales" thread, and wish everyone the best, I enjoy seeing what people post no matter what, and appreciate everyone here on the lounge, including Bond, Johnny J., Rick Blaine, and DJH. Everyone has an opinon and i respect that. So I would expect the same courtesy extended to me in allowing me to sell my hats for what ever price I ask. I dont have to ask anyones permission to set a price. It seems like there are a few people here who have an agenda with my buying and selling here(Rick Blaine) I have no animosity toward any one here and i am not looking for any drama from anyone. Rick man up and post your diatribe here so everone can see how you just insulted me in the PM you recently sent.
