There's roadside attractions...and then there's ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS...and nothing will get me to pull over faster than a giant dinosaur. This past weekend I found the original Goony Golf, opened in 1961, on old U.S. 11 in Chattanooga, TN.

Founded by Dutch McGrath, a traveling salesman who "borrowed" some ideas from a place in Florida called Goofy Golf, there were locations all over the Eastern U.S. by the mid 80s. Today only 3 remain... this one, one in Knoxville, TN, and one in Lake George, NY.

"...nothing will get me to pull over faster than a giant dinosaur."

Oh yeah!

If you ever happen to find yourself in Yermo, California be sure to stop off at Peggy Sue's 50s Diner and Diner-Saur Park (35654 Yermo Rd., Yermo, CA 92398). Hey, at least the dinosaurs wear masks.

Yes, there are more dinosaurs; it's not good to give everything away in the brochure. :D

We vacationed in Houghton Lake a couple of times when I was a kid. Rented a little cabin. I remember there being a restaurant there called "Faith, Hope, and No Charity." They had a sign in the window advertising to hire a man with only one tooth to bite holes in donuts.
:D lol! WTF? That’s hilarious! I like places that have a sense of humor like that. I occasionally come across similar type of businesses!

I've looked around up there via the Googles recently, with an eye toward going back up. Needless to say, it's not quite as bucolic as it once was and seems to have lost some of that charm. Faith, Hope and No Charity no longer exists.

I had a similar experience with Kalispell and Libby Montana. We went there on vacation when I was a little shaver, as dad was in the CCC "Tree Army" in the 30s and wanted to go back to where he was stationed. I was up there on a water sampling project about 15 years ago and Kalispell, which was pretty much a one-horse town, had a mall. Libby was about the size Kalispell was when I was there in the 60s.
