Hey all.
This is a strange one, Id like some input on.
Ive been dressin vintage fora while. Mostly skirts and sweaters, you know girl stuff. Today, Im in vintage, but in what would be considered 'boys wear': black vest, slacks, wingtips, white oxford, straw fedora, and a cool vintage tie. I must admit, I look super cute ;) But what is strange is the sheer number of compliments I gotten dressed this way.

Ladies, do you find you get more reactions from vintage dressing as a 'dude' than as a 'chick'?

Fellas, same question? :p *kidding*
But fellas, what is your reaction to the role reversal of the ladies?

Thanks,

LD

Well maybe I'll be in the minority on this, but although I'm a Huge fan of ladies wearing a suit (with skirt or slacks), I'd have to say I'll pass on the totally dressing like a dude thing. Maybe I just haven't ever seen it tastefully done...

Now this I really go for :D

No. PC is nonsense!

I love feminine girly girls! ;)
Women should be women, and men should be men,...just as it was in days of old. We would all benefit without that extra added bit of confusion, in an altogether totally confusing enough world. :(

The thing is the only real boy thing I am wearing are the tie and the hat, signature dude attire. Everything else is cut for a girl, so I LOOK like a girl. I guess its the signature pieces, hat and tie, that get the attention.

I think I look good in men's hats and coats. I've never done a whole vintage men's outfit. I'd be more likely to mix it up, fedora with a skirt. And I gotta have those vintage women's shoes!

I'd be tempted to try out the historic adventurer look, and that's definitely not very foo-foo. I'm still deciding what exactly would be involved though. Besides the ladies' pistol, of course. ;)

Somebody, WHAT is that movie filmed I think in the 1990's or 2000's, that was supposed to take place in the 1930's or so, with that young female Indiana Jones-type adventurer? She REALLY got the look right, Viola, if someone can remember the movie.

Lady Day, cool that the clothes are female-cut. Just did a google images check for ladies with ties, I guess a tie can really work if done right:

I wish I could remember the name of that film..

As for me, I like a tailored suit, but I prefer an A line skirt instead of pants. Just a personal thing, more comfortable in a dress or skirt. But, I think it's fine for other gals. Just as long as the outfit is tailored, so as to keep that air of femininity.

I actually like that look. Marlene Dietrich used to walk around dressed like that and looked great. I look for high-cute trowsers with suspenders right now. You know like the trowser that torreros wear ;)

Dietrich is the kind of gal with the panache to make that look work -- of course, she had the panache to make *any* look work. She wore a gorilla suit in "Blonde Venus," and a gorilla never looked more elegant.

In my community theatre days, I once did a guy role in a very spiffy 30's pinstripe suit and tie, wingtips, fedora, and a rakish pencil moustache made of electrical tape. For some reason, I didn't fool anyone....
