Vintage 50's Bates CR

Up for grabs is a highly original Bates cafe racer with 2-slanted chest pockets. This jacket is a true survivor, having been made sometime in the early to mid 50's and other than some bumps and bruises, shows to have been rather well cared for overall. It is made of a thick, grainy Steerhide, the zippers are all original and still work well, the main zipper is one of the smoothest operating zippers I have tried. The lining was removed at some point. The shoulder and elbow pads are still intact and functional. It still smells like leather, and after some conditioning, the leather is fairly pliable. However please understand that this will be more of a collector's piece than a generally wearable/usable motorcycle jacket.

I just want to see this go to someone who will appreciate it for the piece of history that it is

I carefully wore this jacket several times, however looking at the dimensions now I was shocked that I could even put it on. Ideally this should go to someone who wears ~ size 40 - 42 jackets.

Pit to pit - 21.25"
Shoulders - 18"
Down Zip collar to hem - 23"
Back - 24"
Sleeve ~ 24"

I have tried to show all "faults" below, please ask any questions you have - there is a notable "hole" that does not pass through both leather layers near the back collar area. The LH side pocket zipper will need re-stitched at it's lower side. The LH sleeve has a small area that the stitching will need repaired. The main zipper has a break about 1" from the very top.
