WONDERFUL VINTAGE 1980s CANVAS AND LEATHER BRIEFCASE/TRAVEL BAG
From Land's End. Made in the USA!
This is terrific!
During the late 1970s and into the 1990s Land's End produced a line of sturdy, rugged, luggage with classic good looks, made in the USA from cotton canvas with leather trim.
Originally introduced in the 1970s as "Square Rigger" luggage--a tribute to the sialing ships whose crews Lands' End was originally founded to supply. This was accompanied by an ad. campaign, which noted that Square Rigger Luggage could be seen anywhere from commuter trains to New York, to private jets and limousines.
For once, the advertising was accurate--the good looks and sheer quality of Square Rigger luggage made it a hit.
Likely dating from the early 1980s--the time when Lands' End was using the "Direct merchant" tag on its luggage----this lovely briefcase/travel bag is a greta example of vintage Lands' End luggage.
Made from sturdy black cotyton canvas with brown leather trim, this case features a sturdy two-way YKK zipper that can be unzipped on three sizes. Inside, the case features a full-length pocket on both sides, with one side having addityional small pockets for items such as calculators and Filofaxes. (Remember, this is from the 1980s!)
The case also features a full-length pocket on the rear exterior, the original luggage tag, and D-rings for a shoulder strap--alas, this possibly went missing sometime during the Clinton administration.
The bag has the usual minor scuffs that you'd expect, as well as the initials of the original owner--easily removed if you so desire. The interior pockets are lined with some sort of plastic which is slightly "tacky", but that doesn't affect function at all.
It was, of course, Made in the USA!
Overall, Very Good condition--and a great piece of luggage to
accompany you everyday and on your adventures!
It measures 17" long, by 13" high, and c. 3" wide.
Asking just $39.50--its original price back in 1982! But this time this price includes shipping and insurance in the CONUSA!
