Victorian repro suits?

Hello All!

I hope this isn't the wrong place to post this...

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Victorian/1800s repros like Wah maker and others?
Are they made from old patterns? Do they have good cut and small armholes? I really like those coats and was thinking of getting one.

I don't own one, but it seems to me that oversize armholes on a Victorian suit would look impossibly incorrect.

They aren't cheap but not insanely expensive. A full male outfit would be around $150+

The stuff being made by WAHmaker, Gentlemens Emporium and other similar manufacters is not very authentic. For shirts and such the stuff may be passable, but for coats or suits definately not.

If you want really authentic 19th century menswear it will cost you.

The real question whether a Victorian-looking suit is wanted, or an actual suit made by Victorian methods. It would be somewhat easy to get something with a Victorian flavor (sack coat, 3+ buttons, high notch, etc) but I doubt any of the overseas custom tailors have any experience with creating historical garments from documentation.

With Victorian clothing, you have all of the problems we have with trying to get 1930s style clothing, with the added problem that it is even further removed from contemporary consciousness and knowledge. Not that many people really know all that much about how Victorian mens clothing was made and worn.

Exactly why I said they might have heart failure, would someone want to be 150% authentic.
