Update on the QE2

Ah the QE2. My parents live across the water from the QE2 terminal in Southampton, saw it many a time, the QM2 in comparison is huge but I might say a bit less graceful. Never went on a cruise though, the closest I got was playing for some passengers before they departed, when I was a young member of a local brass band.

This ship sailed into town today and the QE2 is due to arrive at the same time along with others ...a total of 4 superliners!

I believe the QE2 is already in Dubai, being remodeled. Or not being remodeled, as the case may be.
According to the article it's the QM2 that's coming. Not to be missed. I saw QE2 and QM2 together in New York harbor a couple of years ago, an astounding sight.

Ah, she was a lovely old girl - I hope the Dubai folks decide to work with what they have rather than chop her up and turn her into a shopping mall and hotel.

I remember my first trip on her, with a cabin down on 4 deck, thinking "my god, what do people see in this old tub?" but it wasn't long before I was as smitten as all the other liner geeks.

Plus, how can you not love a six day crossing with four black-tie formal nights one after the other? I wouldn't call her luxurious, not by today's standards, but by god she was elegant.
