My grey fedora smelled worse than smoke more like cigarette tar. The first time I did the naptha sealed bucket method for three hours. When I was done I ran the used naptha through a coffee filter. It was dry after sitting overnight but still smelled awful. This time it was a overnight soak. In the morning I put the hat in another bucket and poured the naptha over it. Then moved back to the other bucket and poured the naptha over it again. I repeated this four or five times. It has now dried and is looking better but stil smells. Since I reused the naptha is it possible that the liquid although filtered and clear has retained the smokey funk. What can I try next? Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated.
