Came across these two books at Goodwill today. I'm not interested in them, but thought someone here might be. Both are in very good shape with just a couple of minor corner creases on the covers. Previous owner inked her name on the interior.

EVERYDAY FASHIONS OF THE FORTIES AS PICTURED IN SEARS CATALOGUES
JoAnne Olian
Dover Publications, 1992
Here's the link to the Amazon description:
http://www.amazon.com/Everyday-Fashions-Forties-Pictured-Catalogs/dp/0486269183/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1197675768&sr=11-1
I am asking for $7.00 (includes media rate shipping)

1940s HAIRSTYLES
Daniela Turudich
Streamline Press, 2001
Here's the link to the Amazon description:

For some reason, every site has this listed for at least $150. I don't know why, as its just a modern softcover. This is the first edition, but still ... [huh] I will ask for $40 (includes media rate shipping), only because I need a new hat! I only hope someone is nice enough not to buy it at that price and then turn around and sell it for twice that. I'm not doing this for a big profit, just trying to be a nice guy. ;)

I will only ship to US addresses right now. If you'd like it by Christmas, you may be out of luck unfortunately. Sorry. I will ship within a day or two of payment. That payment can be via check, money order, or Paypal.

That's ok......thank you though. I'm surprised you didn't put it on ebay. It goes for a pretty penny.

Like I said, I'm not looking to make a big profit. I just wanted to offer it to a good group of folks who might get some use out of it.

What a gent! That book goes for a fortune on Amazon Marketplace - it's good to see it go to a good home!

I ran my own bookstore for 7 years. Sometimes one sees prices skyrocket far past what I would deem a book worth. Really bothered me, but at that time I would have listed this for much more. Now that I don't need to sell them for a living, I can sell them for the pleasure of making readers happy. When I closed the store, I gave away almost half my inventory to schools, buddhist monasteries, and prison education programs. Of course, there was a tax write off. :D

That hairstyles book goes for hundreds of dollars since there is a specialty demand for it and it's out of print.

Not anymore. The price keeps dropping, with the current price on Amazon $150. Based on the reviews, the price is really based on demand, not on the contents of the book.

Its actually a completely stupid price,....its out of print, so suddenly its as if God himself handed it down to Amazon to sell to you,....
I've found LOTS of hundred dollar books on other used book sites for just a few bucks,....I'm sure I'll run across that one for my wife sooner or later,...hopefully sooner!

Funny thing is, a few years ago a friend was selling them, obviously we just never got one for her,...go figure, it was always,.."ah next time,..."

Thank you, Mr. LocktownDog! The famous book arrived in the mail today. I'm hoping to finally try my hand at some of these hairstyles.

Within 2 hours of my post earlier about the book being available for $150 on Amazon, it sold, and than shortly after that, the $180 copy sold too.

And for the lovely ladies who didn't get this book, two thoughts...

1) In looking at this book, it is obvious she grabbed her reference material from a variety of outdated sources still available via reprint from varioius sellers via PDF, CD and spiralbound publications. Some of it is commonly found for as little as $5.00.

2) I forgot to try inter-library loan, but you might want to save yourself some money and see if this works for you.

Cheers-
