Tuxedo Night in Enchanting San Juan

My Lords, Ladies, and Gentlemen,
I seek an obscure bit of advice. Seeking advice is always made more difficult when it's so specific but in my case I'm afraid it's unavoidable. The rub is this: I am currently making plans to spend the new year holiday with a rather attractive young female friend who lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It just so happens that she looks rather stunning in an evening gown so with that in mind it is my intention to attend a celebration at one of the swankier hotels in town, to which I would adore the idea of wearing a tuxedo. Sound's dashing you might say? Well indeed it does. However, my worry is that because of San Juan's location in the more "Dantean" climes I will be a sweaty, stinky mess all night, regardless of how much deodorant or cologne I wear, if I wear a tuxedo.

I Put it to the forum directly: has anyone here ever had occasion to wear a tuxedo in San Juan (or anywhere else like that for that matter) and how did it turn out? Is it do-able at night, after dark? Will it be cool or temperate enough in the dead of their "winter" over the new year holiday? Obviously one makes the concessions one has to make in the greater interests of "haute-couture" but I would prefer not to dress up at the expense of smelling like a french prison, or ruining my new tuxedo with sweat stains for that matter...

Thank you all most graciously for any advice you can provide,

Vice Commodore, C.G.B.

Well, you could start thinking about a white DJ instead of a black one, for starters. They tend to be built more lightly. I don't know much about the climate of PR, but I suspect you will find it balmy down there at that time of year, thoroughly enjoyable. You can also find the black trousers in a lighter material. Check the lengthy but worthwhile Formalwear Primer thread.

I've never lived in San Juan, but I have lived in the Virgin Islands, just to the east of Puerto Rico. December evenings should be in the mid 70s. How cool it will feel will depend on how much breeze you will have; also keep in mind that December could be a rainy month. Most hotels or casinos will be air conditioned. I've never been a fan of the white DJ, so I would attempt to find a tropical weight black one, but either black or white would be acceptable.
