Hey all,
Found some neat items today. I was contemplating picking them up but was still on the fence as I left the store. I left in the evening so there is a good chance they are still there if I went tomorrow.
1st item: 1960s sport coat
In very, very good condition. No moth holes. Has a date of 1-4-61 inside on the red letter 1949 Union tag. Reason I hesitated was because of the fabric. The fabric was very beautiful, but wild and unique. I probably couldn't wear it to the office, and was trying to think of what I really could wear it with. Fit me perfectly though. Closer shot of the fabric:
2nd item: 1930s-1940s tan overcoat
I was absolutely going to pick this up until I discovered a tear in the fabric underneath the back of the collar that crept out about 3/16" from underneath it. It also has some separation at the seam on the inside of the collar (visible in the picture). If it is possible to roll the collar down (i.e. make the coller taller) by about 1/8" or so a repair could be completely hidden. I'm not sure the fabric is wool - it feels more like a soft cotton raincoat. It has a Union tag with the red letters down the center, but the tag was pretty worn. After reviewing the steel zipper website, I have a question - while it remarked that the 1939 Union tag had a '80' on the bottom right, did that also appear on the 1934 or 1936 Union tags? Other than the tear and a few missing stitches here and there (and a button), it is in good shape and the fabric is in rather good overall shape.
Other than that fabric tear I was ready to buy this. I absolutely love the lapels on it and it is not a stair sweeper
Thoughts? Ideas? Remarks? Would love to hear them. Thanks!
