If you spent your own money, and can afford either jacket, which would you rather get?

1. Gustin L3.

2. Iron Heart Horsehide X Self Edge Collab.

I’d appreciate a fair (sorta, maybe?) discussion. Thanks in advance!

Is this a serious question?

I’ve dumped thousands of dollars into Gustin and either returned or sold every single item except for two. I thought they were great when I first got into raw denim and better quality clothes - but I will likely never purchase one of their items ever again.

Consistently late deliveries. Inconsistent sizing with the *same size and cut* ordered across different pairs of denim jeans. Jackets showing up with blatantly incorrect details (contrast stitching vs tonal stitching). Their radical, awesome, excellent value used car salesmen descriptions and emails should be a dead giveaway in the first place.

Frankly, I’m shocked they’re still around.

Yes, better than Target clothes... and honestly that’s where a lot of their customers are probably coming from.

A leather jacket from them? NO WAY.

For my money it would be the Iron Heart all day. Their jacket looks cleaner and meaner to me.
I have to say on a positive note that the L3 looks like Gustin‘s best shot at a serious leather jacket yet. Something went wrong when they got to the back though and the blousy billowy action back just kills it for me. I have at least 10 pairs of Agustin jeans and I like them very much. I’ve also bought a number of their short sleeve button down shirts which are nice. When it comes to jackets though I have found them to be somewhat uninspired and boring.
Hope I kept it fair enough for you, good luck!

I know many here dislike Gustin’s attempt at leather jackets in the past. I feel this latest L3 is a pretty decent effort, and I’m considering it in my next purchase because of the low price.

Seems like in the end, I’m leaning toward the Iron Heart because I like everything from them.

The seam down the middle of the Iron Heart doesn’t bother me. I have plenty of jackets with a single large panel with either a yoke or a kidney panel, but I like the seam down the back of this Iron Heart.

I don't like the back centre seam on the latter. But they both look like bog standard cafes to me. I wouldn't want the side entry pockets on either of those.

The hand warmers are exactly the reason I want these jackets over the standard cafes without them. I do have IH denim jackets without the hand warmers, but my motorcycle leathers must have these pockets for me to shove my riding gloves into when I stop.

Not a fan of either of those. Especially the Gustin but the IH leaves much to be desired as well. You can do much better (for less than the IH and more than the Gustin).

So....my feeling is: Aero. Their CR pattern is the best imho. Lots of options. No unknowns. They made the best CR’s I’ve ever owned hands down. Not even a question.

Iron heart > gustin no question

Or spec a vanson model b minus side cinch, chrome zips, delete streamliner inside buttons and zips for about 850 looks a lot like that iron heart. I did that a while back in the z150. Sold it. Regret it. Moved on to the next

From my reading, this Iron Heart Horsehide jacket is teacore—the patina will be incredible. The Japanese horsehide (from a little tanning house in japan) is also not as stiff and heavy as FQHH, yet it is constructed like a brick with precise stitches. I like these aspects a lot.

I don't care what you want; you asked for our feed back. :D They are both a bit off to my taste.

Edited to show this is meant in humor not seriousness

Right on. As soon as I posted that I saw that you had just posted that handwarmers were a necessity on this jacket, pretty much rules the Comet out!

Yeah, it’s why I sadly moved them on. I still have a Vanson with armor slots, but only use that when going to the track.

Yes, and I appreciate that. But I’m replying as a course of conversation. Besides, you did not answer the actual question. If they don’t apply to you, then simply move on instead of being unfriendly in an otherwise friendly forum.

I think you can do better PB. IH does denim better than anybody but the leather offerings have always seemed sub par to me. I agree it bests the Gustin. But both need to be revisited by a tailor. Are you totally sold on this particular either/or?

Thanks, ton312. I am now eliminating the Gustin from my list, but I’m partial to the IH jacket for its lighter horsehide, teacore effect, handwarmers, silhouette, shoulder gussets and sleeve length (the last two particularly for riding).

Just size it better than SE did with model. He couldn’t possibly get a cup of coffee to his mug (either mug) in a fit like that! I do agree it’s the better of the two.

For $445 that Gustin, as a Made in California jacket, is actually quite interesting overall. The ad text claims the leather is soured out of Germany, and states a good bit about it's weight and feel, which I would give Gustin credit for. I have zero prior contact or awareness of this company or it's products. If the photos on the website are anything close to what the actual product is, it's really not a bad choice for the cash they charge for it.

For $1575 - the Iron Heart is a considerably more substantial investment. That's Lost Worlds/Langlitz funding right there. The IH has less noticeable action back panels, and I personally feel it's finish on the leather looks richer, however that could just be the camera angle & lighting.

Cafe Racers in general are somewhat of an "odd lot" in the jacket world. Kind of like the motorcycle style of a Cafe Racer or Chopper as they tend to be highly individualistic. Every to try a sell a Chopper Motorcycle? I have, and it was a real struggle as each and every "legitimate" chopper is an individual piece of the creator's imagination.

Similar situation with Cafe Racer jackets of the types mentioned here. This makes them a challenge in my mind as the preferences are so deep for changes that appear to be so "minuscule." 4,3 or 2 pocket. Action back, Back yoke, Kidney panels inside & out, center seam or one piece back, zipper size, lining, collar shape, height and snaps, if any, how far "up" the jacket the end of the zipper is located. It's rather confusing altogether.

I would not go for either of those, if I really had $1200 for a Cafe Racer today, this would be "mine" quickly:http://www.lostworldsinc.com/Horsehide_Leather_Motorcycle_Jacket_Buco_Rider.htm
