Lately I've been listening to broadcasts of the Armed Forces Radio Service - namely, the G.I. Journal.
Each show ends with a really swinging version of Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea, and since it sounds exactly the same in every show, I guess it's a recording. Does anyone know who plays it?

It's definitely a recording -- many of the GI Journal segments were excerpted from other programs, most often from "Command Performance," and all the music came from either AFRS Basic Music Library transcriptions or V-Discs.

That said, I don't recognize the band on that particular cut either -- so I'll be very interested to know if anyone else can!
