The wonderful Ice Cream Suit

The suit! As white as snow in the mountains. As white as the clouds. As white as vanilla ice cream.

Wonderful, heart warming story in which five Latino men in Los Angeles, feeling lonely, ignored and unappreciated, come together to pool their money to buy a beautiful white suit.

Wearing the suit for an hour each, the suit, or their attitude once in the suit, transforms their relationship to the world, and to each other. they end the night as fast friends, excited to see what the world will bring them.

A cast of some of the best Latino actors in Hollywood, and even a cameo by Sid Ceaser.

Original story by Ray Bradbury, originally published as The magic white Suit, then adapted to a stage play. Starred F Murray Abraham on Boradway in 1958. Adapted to latinos, I think, by Bradbury for this movie.

apparently, this is a popular stage play for latino High Schools and community groups now.

If you have not seen this movie, you should as soon as possible. Not available on DVD unfortunately, but on vhs.

Any movie that revolves around a white suit is tops in my book. Add latinos and I am in heaven.

I must admit that, after a mighty strong cocktail, this is not at all what I was expecting from a thread titled "the wonderful ice cream suit." Come to think of it, I have no idea what I was expecting.

Maybe I should have another Manhattan.

Good observation. White suits have one underlying meaning: feudalism. The man in the white suit lives off others' labor.

I wear off-white suits in summer. I get away with it because I sweat a lot and let them rumple.

Nobody would mistake me for a feudal baron. I look more like one of their rent collectors.

When I hear the term, "the man in a white suit", my immediate thought is of Alec Guiness and the device that makes a rhythmic percolating sound..."Bloop-bloop Blip; Bloop-bloop Bloop; Bloop-bloop Blip; Bloop-bloop Bloop...;

Haversack.

Bradbury grew up in LA, and it's been argued that the reverence that Chicano zoot suiters had for their suits influenced Bradbury when he later wrote this in '57.

There's another movie about a white suit. Someone invents a white, indestructible, non-dyable, never-needs-cleaning fabric and makes a white suit out of it. Entire guilds get up in arms because that fabric will mean the end of their livelihood.
