I just watched this a few nights ago about the physicist Stephen Hawking and I have to say it is a very touching story and well done film.
The acting is very good especially Eddie Redmayne's performance.
One does not have to be a nerdy scientist to enjoy this film - although there is just enough of it to get the gist of Hawking's work in cosmology.
Being a notorious tough hombre type I usually do not cry at movies but it is truly incredible to see the challenges Hawking has faced in his life time dealing with ALS and surviving the "death sentence" meted out by the doctors for 50+ years and all with a fantastic sense of humor. All of a sudden my own trivial daily "problems" just didn't seem as important any longer.
I highly recommend this film!
