Well, we have women chiming in on the "Return of the Man's Man" thread and how certain qualities can also be attributed to women, so let's start a thread for the Lady's Lady? What consitutes the qualities of a "Lady"????

I've been watching The X Files on Netflix and was struck by how ladylike Agent Scully is. I like that she looks professional, she has dignity, speaks in measured terms, and shows loyalty to her partner. She's also courageous, thinks for herself and doesn't chase everything in a pair of pants. She's a welcome change from bimbos and ballbusters.

TV is a really bad place to look for positive images of any gender. Generally speaking, popular culture and the reporting of it isn't always rooted in reality.

You might very well see a woman throwing up in the alley behind a bar at 2 am, but definitely not a lady.

Indeed. A lady would find a discrete place to take care of that problem.

Anyone here ever read the little book, "Better Than Beauty - A Guide to Charm." I think it covers this topic quite well. And you are right LaMedicine, a lady would not even come close to finding herself in such a situation.

Funny the guys will have to tiptoe thru this thread.

I have met very few of what I feel are females and true ladies.
I have a very high bar when it comes to this. I think probably as I remember from long ago.
You just know when you are in ones presence.
It has very little to do with monetary also.

Agree with LaMedicine on the take also. lol

A man treats you with cues of how you treat yourself.
I could talk hours on this one. Maybe even days. :)

example I would think would be Annette Benning. She was able to tame Warren.

For a thread of this nature, it sure seems to have taken an interesting, perhaps inappropriate turn. Any other ideas out there, not having to do with being "unwell?"

Especially if she had food poisoning from something she ate before she went to the bar.lol lol lol

I hope I don't get nailed for this but in all seriousness, I always thought that being a lady was all about maturity rather than age or body development. That even applies to the gentleman theory. In other words, the term ladies and gentlemen should be synonymous with the term mature adults. It's all in the attitude. If you think about it, it makes sense. :)

I'd say something about dresses and stockings, but I'd get branded as sexist.lol

Brad

It is interesting that some would label a comment about "lady's lady" sexist but not a comment about "man's man". hmmmm  Is there a double standard?

There was a recent shindig here that encouraged people to dress up, the avatar for my profile was a quick picture I snapped before attending said function and I saw several young woman about my age dressed to the nines in dresses I would describe as vintage styled. I personally took the time to applaud each of their efforts... they being attractive young woman had nothing to do with the attention I gave them... ah hem.

But the point I am getting to is that I there is no return of the ladies lady, I think women for the most part have always held higher standards of dress than men. Shame on us fellas, well not us, we're lounge members, we care... but the rest of us... tisk tisk.

You ought to see a good percentage of the women in the town I live in. The picture is not good. I wish I had a nickel for every one of the women here that routinely wear sweat pants (not the fashion kind), lounge pants (they 're just like pajama pants) and old jeans. I'd be a rich man. The ones that wear nice dresses or nice suits are not that plentiful.

The worst is the person in pj bottoms, a sweatshirt top, unkempt hair (and worse yet often a heavy BO problem), and topped (bottomed? lol) off with either sandals or slippers. And that goes for either sex. I saw a woman at the grocers today who dressed like that, and was yelling at some poor teenager about the lettuce not being fresh enough.

A lady is an adult who simply has either the better judgment, or class to pay attention to her surroundings and act accordingly. Paisley's suggestion of Agent Scully is a good example.

Add a thousand dollar designer bag and you describe the typical Long Island gal look.
