IMO, the Golden Era began during the 1930s and ends around 1963. And I've noticed quite a few of BIG TIME Golden Era leading man deaths in this period: Humphrey Bogart, dying at age 57 in 1957; Tyrone Power, dying at age 44 in 1958; Ronald Coleman, dying at age 67 in 1958; Errol Flynn, dying at age 50 in 1959; Clark Gable, dying at age 59 in November 1960. It really does seem like the late 50s/early 60s marked the death of the era, literally and metaphorically...Are there any other Golden Era celebrity deaths you know of in this period?

It seems that 1964 was a particularly bad year for Golden Era stars, as well as other historic figures:

Gracie Allen
William Bendix
Nacio Herb Brown (Tin Pan Alley songwriter)
Eddie Cantor
Alan Ladd
Peter Lorre
Harpo Marx

It was also the death of the studio system that had created both golden era film and golden era stars. The late 50's and the 60's saw a new breed of studio executives in tinsel town, executives more interested in making "the deal" than in making "the movie"...
