The Good German

In short, the film attempts to recapture Casablanca's glory. The cover of the movie case is the same still as that from Casablanca; the plot is similar, a wife trying to help her husband escape WWII Germany, and their ally ends up being the wife's ex-lover. What's comical is the fact that for a film that in some respect so closely mirrors one of the greatest films ever, the remake is awful. The Good German would be worthless if it were in color. There are great shots of post-war Germany, and it's in black and white. The acting is poor: Clooney is a huge disappointment. He acts like his character from Oceans 11--he seems to really have found a niche with him (Oceans 11-13); it's a character he can't seem to release, and one who does not belong in a noir style film. Cate Blanchett stands out. The film made me realize how talented she is. But overall, the film is awful, nothing is redemming in the film. A huge disappointment!
