That thingy on the sweatband in the back

I'm sure this has been covered before but....

...what the heck do you call that little thread or ribbon "fluer de lis" looking thing near the size tag over the seam on the sweatband inside the hat?

Bow ties

At one time you could loosen or tighten your sweat band using the bow tie since it was built into the sweat band... It seems today its used to finish the sweat band off more for looks than function... or so i'm told.

Not to send your original question in a different direction, but I have two hats with an extra flat flap on the backside of the sweatband. One of them states it's a secret place to slip a little paper money. Clever! (Unless it's a windy day). :p

You were told right. The bow tie is used more now as a marker for the center of the back of the hat. I am told it helps line up the block. ;)
