Today i found a picture of me and my date in the bigest danish newspaper "Politikken". It looks like that the press is finally picking up on the increasingly popular 30's harlem-dance, "Lindy hop".

The online version of the article (in dansh!)

How is it in the rest of the world? "Lindy hop" growing in your towns too?

Nice photo!

I don't know how Lindy Hop is doing in these parts, but I've found a place that looks like it gives really great classes. I've been meaning to take some. Perhaps I'll start this summer, it just looks like so much fun!

At the Mercury Cafe in Denver, there are nights in the summer when there are some 400 dancers lindy hopping. We have the national champs here (Dan, Tiff and the rest of 23 Skidoo) and they are really dedicated to teaching and preserving the dance.

I really wanted to go out last night and have my birthday dance, but I just still don't feel that well. :(

Hi fellow cats and kittens!

The other day we, a group of lindy hoppers, gathered toghether an the street and danced to show our sympathy with the eviction of "Ungdomshuset" in copenhagen.

We had a swell time, although it was very cold.

Ungdomshuset was a house previously used by young people from subcultures such as: punkrockers, anarchists and many other off-beat youngsters. The youth house also acted as an alternative musicscene, where death metal, punk, ska concerts were played (nick cave, bj??rk and Einst?ºrzende Neubauten played here ). And also a place for youngsters to chrash or get a cheap hot meal. The Danish goverment decided to close this free-haven down and now this mix of subcultures are "homeless", angry and hurt. That is why we had these riots theese last days in copenhagen. BBC article about ungdomshuset

Being a part of a retro-style living subculture, I feel very sad and somewhat angry since I too feel the danish societys increasing intollerance towards the "different" people. Just the last month, three times I was called "Hitler" on the street in copenhagen.. because i dress and groom in 1930's style???

We supported the right to be different and belived that there is something sick with a society if it cannot allow subcultures to exist. But i must emphasize that we dont support the violence that has occured the last days.

For the admins: The view on society expressed in this post is not a party-political statement, just my personal moral refelctions. If the post clashes with FL's policy, i kindly ask for the post to be removed. Thx

It seems like being a Lindy Hopper is a requirement at my church! I can't meet a new group of people in Portland without finding some swing dancers. It's spreading...almost like a disease! I know I'd love it, but I haven't given in yet. Everyone who has urged me to do it over the last couple years would think they won! :)

Many of my friends travel to gatherings in Seattle, California and everywhere in between to gyrate their hips together.

It's cool to see how far it has gone.

Lindy hop & Vintage style living

Ha ha.. this is almost embarrasing.
The way i shamefully use this thread for my personal media apperances :whistling

Anyways, I managed to get hold of a pdf copy of an article that
was printed last week. I uploaded it here The pictures are nice and this time there actually is a half page about me and my vintage style living (...although its in danish...).

Short recap: Most of the article is about a jounalists "live encounter" with Lindy hop: a gentlemans sweaty buttocks, a birthday jam-cirkle, apple pie and some people talking about the dance in Denmark.
Later on, "That 30's guy", a personal interview with me, and why i dance and live in this vintage style. Mostly i say its the love and happpiness, and then because i use it as a counter culture thing, a personal reaction against a society that keeps excluding certain members.

I dindt mention FL because, as spitfire and I agree on: This community is so unique, we treat eachother so nice and respectfully. So i have no desire in destroying that, bet instead continue to tip those who are cincere.

Thanks for reminding me filmluvguy!
I guess i need to practice in being more proud over there in LA!
But im getting better ;) I am glad what i am acheiving, and the future looks bright, simply because i visualize it to be ;)

We have this unspoken thing in Denmark called the "law of jante",
wich is based on pure envy and unfortunately keeps proudness to a minimum.

You know, im looking forward too meet you in LA and hear more about you!
Right now.. im scared as hell to go to LA, but i am comming..
the goal is within 2 weeks.

Too bad. Nothing is more refreshing than something new (when done right and even if we do speak highly of the 30s and 40s). Be proud of your achievements. They'll never be anything in your life that'll come close.

Los Angeles is indeed a frightning place as is most cities. Just keep your head up high and your eyes straight ahead and you'll do fine. Some of the most disturbing places in the world are also the most beautiful and intriguing. LA could be considered one of them. Good luck!
