Okay, here are two jackets I would love to see if someone can identify the manufacturer:

The first one (Black) is a jacket I love, the patina is incredible but it's like wearing a piece of beef jerky. No liner, no names on the buttons, replacement main zipper. Hoping the front coin pocket might help with identification as it's a somewhat unique shape.

The second one is a reversible jacket (suede on the inside) that I've been unable to locate any identifiers on. No labels, etc. But, it has really great character and I enjoy wearing it around as a thin jacket.

Thanks for the tip Nick! Will research that right now!

It has that "vibe", especially the leather and shape of collar. Some of the originals are quite expensive too. But there were some offshoot brands that mimicked the EW, so it could be one of those.

Re. #1, Indian Ranger is the only such style that I've seen with similar coin pocket config.

It also has went through several model changes, but some details remained consistent, like the said pocket and top sleeve zippers.

Thank you for the help, Monitor! This jacket has been a labor of love and it would be great to find out the jacket actually has a pedigree to it. I've been thinking about adding back a liner to it but haven't made a final decision on it. After a few passes with Jackson's leather conditioner, the leather has become a bit less brittle but I am reluctant to add much more product to the leather.

I'm fairly certain it's the Ranger. Collar is also a match, albeit your jacket doesn't seem to have a throat latch. Could've been removed, I guess. What's the back like on your jacket? Those guys didn't have separated kidney panel, entire back was made from a single leather piece. Here's one on eBay that's been sitting there for quite a while, and looking at the price, I doubt that's gonna change any time soon: http://www.ebay.com/itm/0RIGINAL-19...38-40-/281516713969?pt=Vintage_Men_s_Clothing

It's such an awesome jacket... I'm hoping that really is the Ranger you got there, mate. One day I'll save enough money for a repro, at least. Don't worry about the conditioner, it can't harm the thing, if it's the good stuff. Stop applying it once the jacket stops drinking, but give it time in between passes for it to dry and settle down a bit.

REALLY appreciate the thoughtful advice and link! I can confirm the jacket must have had a throat latch at one time because I can see on my jacket where there was something stitched to that portion of the collar. I wondered what went there, now I know. I've attached a picture of the back. From what I can tell, it's a pretty close match. Though the eBay jacket doesn't have the sweet "CHUCK" outline this jacket once had. Chuck REALLY loved adding embellishments to his jacket. :) $_57 (17).jpg

Yep, congratulations, you got yourself a Ranger. I can see from the back photo that even the belt's tapered. It's probably the early(er) version of the jacket.
Listen, it's in a really bad shape, near useless, and my birthday is coming soon so I can take that smelly old jacket of your back. How about it? XD

It's the least i could do, really. Before I send it to you, I wonder if there is a place that would be able to recreate and add a liner like the original. I like the plaid look. I'd never want to give you a jacket until it had been properly reconditioned. You deserve better, frankly.

Any ideas on someone that might be able to do the liner?

You're absolutely right. I wouldn't have it any other way, anyway. :D Apparently, greatleather.com does wonders restoring old leather jackets. There was a thread on filmjackets dot com I remember... Ah, here it is: http://filmjackets.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=56&sid=cfea920d0234b2cb39c312c1c72b903d&start=105
Anyway, they really did a miracle on that old Durable so I'm sure adding a lining would be a piece of cake. You can have the whole thing restored while you're at it. Plenty of plaid tartans online - red Rob Roy would go well with it and I think it was somewhat of a standard anyway.

Hey, could you please tell me, what's the back length of your Ranger?

Of course, happy to. The length of the jacket starting from the bottom of the collar is 23.25".

Thank you for the link, super helpful. I will have to do some additional research on finding a Rob Roy, which I agree, would be perfect.

Happy Holidays!

Any ideas on this jacket? Made in '64 out of Horsehide. I've never seen a vertical zip pocket above the coin pocket. Also came with 2 stars on the epaulets and never had a belt. No snaps on top lapels, just the lower.

Some models do have vertical zip like that. Can you please upload the back photo?

The way pockets are positioned, coin pocket size, collar, epaulette length and some other details suggest this is The Guide Master Wolf of Boston. Belt was obviously removed but it appears that the loops were about the right size for the Wolf. See if the zip pulls are diamond shaped? Back photo would definitely help.

^ Johnson Leathers here in San Francisco would be able to make a new liner for it. They would have to charge a little more for it because there isn't an old one to help with a pattern but they could still absolutely do the job.

Yep, just checked the back and it's a match with the one on eBay. Though I think the one on eBay is an earlier version as the liner is a different color. The sleeve zip location matches and the zippers are a match, from what I can tell. Sort of a half-bell shape. The back also matches, specifically the seams and belt attachment location. I can see where the belt on mine was removed so it had a belt at one point. The Guide Master on eBay has two buttons and not the stars, which leads me to believe my jacket must be a later model.

Thanks Devilish! I sent an email out to GreatLeathers but never heard back so I will reach out to Johnson!

If there's no separate kidney panel on the back, it's the Guide Master, then - no doubt about it. Alright, I'm on a roll here! I wonder what will you come up with next, original Strabler jacket from the film?
