The Temple was Stetson's original Indiana Jones model, as in Temple of Doom (ie circa 1984). I think eventually, people caught on that the crown was a standard modern dress crown, much lower and more tapered than the movie hats. Anyway, Stetson stopped selling it as an Indy hat.
Don't know about the color. I would assume these were first made in one or more of brown, medium grey, and black, the standard dress felt colors.
Mine is more recent, and is a sort of olive-brown, with a black ribbon (a nice touch).
It's my understanding that Stetson did not wish to renew the "Indiana Jones" license. Dorfman Pacific picked it up, but if you're into details, their hats are no more "screen accurate" than the Stetsons.
When Stetson changed the name of that model to "Temple," they replaced the padded fabric sweatband with a traditional leather one.
If you are looking for a good new dress hat, it' not a bad choice. I own several. I'm currently wearing one almost exclusively when it rains. It's holding up great!
Is "Dove" not the same as "Caribou"? And would not the Stetson "Temple" in Australia actually be made by Akubra?
As I recall, the "Temple" is rather screen accurate for "Temple of Doom" but completely different from the modified "Poet" used in Raiders.
I wanted to say that I rather like the pictured greenish "Temple" as I am not very fond of Brown/Brown/Brown fedoras. What ever happened to Pecan, Walnut, Almond...?
