I purchased this hat in Buckeye,Az from a gentleman whom stated that it once belonged to Stetson. Apparently it was given to his maid as a gift. I didn't believe his story of course but the hat looked like it was worth $10.00... looks like a beautiful hat.. Trying to identify it and see what value it may have. Comes with the original box....

A photo of a G. Henry Stetson hat can be seen in THE COWBOY HAT BOOK, on page 66. (part of the Gene Autry collection)

Pictures of the sweatband crest, liner and size tag would help confirm, but I would tentatively put the hat in the early 1950s, so it's very possible.

I just noticed that the picture you sent was the one inside the crown... The name on the red tag is penciled in. Looks like it starts with a Aud or Sud....

so, do you think that these were sold to the general public with G.Henry Stetson's name inscribed on the brim. I have not found any similar ones.....

Value is a bit hard to gauge. I've had similar go on eBay for as little as $60, and as much as $500. These rarer models are harder to put a hard and fast value on because they just don't come up very often. To the right person it could be worth good money, but it's hard to say.

On the plus side, desirable style, excellent condition, great provenance.
On the negative, undesirable size and the era of the hat is a bit later than what most people looking for this style are looking for.

I sell a lot on ebay but I didn't know how to even come close to describing it and like you said the actual style is a little to flamboyant for today and may not do as good. I gues I was more intrigued by the name G.Heny Stetson name on the inside and wether this could have been one of the many hats he gave away...

As to the age of the hat, would 1950's be the more or less age, according to the tags used. Also, was it common for J.Henry Stetson to get a copy of each hat model made.
