Couldn’t help but register in his forum. "Thanks" for the heads-up Bret!

Simon seems to be a fanatic. In a brilliant way that is!

I'm hoping to be inspired to buy things I'd never have thought of before. It could be an interesting ride.

Not to mention an expensive one..... ;) If it develops along the current plan, SLC could finally be the dawn of affordable thirties repros of a whole lot of currently impossible-to-find / very expensive stuff. Most affordable repro, in my experience, is either military repro or rockabilly wear. There's definitely a gap in the market, imo, for something else in the price band Simon's targetting.

My dungarees arrived last week too - soon as I find time, I'll put up a thread. They're lovely stuff.

Really looking forward to see what comes up next. The bargain basement denim scene's out the window as far as I'm concerned, this is a far more interesting project.

So how's this going to work? Will it be similar to KS, with minimum order numbers required? And presumably the more on offer, the greater the delivery times.

It sounds like delivery could be two or three months after any announcement for sale.

I don't mind the wait on this so much, as I'm expecting real quality and commitment, but I just hope that timescales aren't an issue. And I also hope that the offerings match the season of delivery. ie, preferably no lightweight deliveries in the depths of winter and vice versa.

I think it will be along the Gustin model, but I know Simon is keen to take on board views on how to improve the process and make it as satisfying and efficient as possible.

I'd quite like to see in one place what's under consideration, maybe even with a simple voting link to say whether or not it's interesting to other people. If something generates sufficient interest, it could be developed further.

I'd imagine all his customers will use his forum, so he'll be targeting a captive audience of the people who'll do the buying.

Basically, I'd like to see more specifics now.

Interesting, so perhaps a three stage process: initial development, poll on how it grabs people generally (price etc) and then the finally 'backing' stage. That's something Gustin missed and to me meant that there was a lot of humdrum denim and weird products that clogged the place up and relied on people just 'buying in' because of a price point more than anything.

simple voting

(And in reply to Sloan):

Yes, development stage (that'll satisfy those who like the nuts n bolts of design); seeing what the styles are - maybe with a fabric-per-style option, to cut down on possible stock / too-many-customer-options issues; polling; and then backing. Although the latter could encompass the penultimate.

The main thing for UK people is that it's quality, but with no customs to pay.

I would imagine that the popular/feasible ideas would become apparent at an early stage, just through the amount of interest, and that the middle stage would be about nailing down the most popular fabrics/styles before the final offer.

There's only one way to settle a minor dispute about the order of business for customer input to an artisanal online store's limited edition garments...

FIGHT! ;)

This "price point" idea explains those grab bag sales they had, which I thought were very odd. Is there a website now where one can see what Simon is offering, or is that the subject here? Sorry, but I'm a bit lost.

The best place to discuss these issues is over on Simon's forum. He really wants to hear what everyone has to say. I would recommend you register and weigh in with your thoughts. Make it a community where people can discuss what they want to wear and what they think he should make. If enough people want it and simon can get the price right, I'm sure he'll be up for it. I suggested making the workwear in Bedford Cord, Sloan likes that idea - maybe it will be possible. I want him to make old fashioned sandals - not sure anyone else wants them.

I know he's very keen to make what people want to wear. I'm not a denim person but I still want to support what he's doing and know he plans thing that lots of us want to wear.

Here's my contribution to helping him get started - an apron:

Simon is currently working up a small collection that I think, he'll clarify no doubt, will be rolled out April(ish). If you sign up to his forum, you too can throw your ha'penneth's worth in on tweed preference, heel shapes and trouser width. :D

You can see everything in the SJC forum. For now there is frantic work on the autumn/winter collection. You can take part and make your suggestions and offer your expertise. After the development stage the items that can be ordered will go live in a sub forum. http://sjcforum.com/portal.php I really like how Simon has set things up as he takes us vintage lovers and experts on board and listens to our suggestions. A good strategy to offer what his target group really wants.
