An excellent idea. I'd hoped this thread would stimulate the sort of discussion that we're getting already, so it's good to see people are enthusiastic about Simon's work.

Interesting, so perhaps a three stage process: initial development, poll on how it grabs people generally (price etc) and then the finally 'backing' stage. That's something Gustin missed and to me meant that there was a lot of humdrum denim and weird products that clogged the place up and relied on people just 'buying in' because of a price point more than anything.

Where I think Gustin made their fatal mistake very early on (whatever else has followed with delivery problems since) was in their design. Seems to me that the selvedge/ premium denim scene has a huge crossoverf with interest in vintage, yet their denim cuts were all very mainstream to my eye - low in the waist and narrow in the leg.... Cut out a huged swathe of their own potential customer base...

The best place to discuss these issues is over on Simon's forum. He really wants to hear what everyone has to say. I would recommend you register and weigh in with your thoughts. Make it a community where people can discuss what they want to wear and what they think he should make. If enough people want it and simon can get the price right, I'm sure he'll be up for it. I suggested making the workwear in Bedford Cord, Sloan likes that idea - maybe it will be possible. I want him to make old fashioned sandals - not sure anyone else wants them.

I know he's very keen to make what people want to wear. I'm not a denim person but I still want to support what he's doing and know he plans thing that lots of us want to wear.

Here's my contribution to helping him get started - an apron:

Part of me wishes I'd ordered one of those now!
