According to my trusty tape measure, the circumference of my head is a little less than 22 inches. With that said, would a hat that measures 22 1/2 inches fit me..? I don't mind a loose hat, but only within reason. ;)

If choosing between a bit large and a bit small, I always go with a touch large. Sweatbands naturally shrink a bit -- and if they don't, you can always put something behind them (felt, tissue paper) to tighten them up.

Stretching a hat isn't difficult; getting it to *stay* stretched is another matter...

Ain't that the truth! I've stretched one of my hats 4 times in the last 6 months. Shrinks back every time!

I have a couple of vintage stretchers & a hat jack. Even when I buy hats my size, they sometimes tighten up due to the new sweatbands & even old ones getting sweat on them. Vintage hats my size are hard to come by so I get some slightly smaller & use the stretchers. Some hats stay better than others. I also have felt strips for fitting loose hats. It is a part of the game to me.
