Showoff! Why hats / fedora make the difference

OK, this thread has lots of nice pictures of its members with hats. Many stories of how the started wearing hats and why. But I think we should show more to convince others. I start this thread based on two reasons:

1. Giving better reasons why fedoras can improve your appearance.

2. Remember sometimes ago about an article from a blog written by a woman called Isabella I-forget-the rest-of-her-name that says, "Wearing fedoras ain't Sexy"? OK, she's entitled to her opinion, but the way she provides example is definitely unfair. The photos of Colin Farrel, Justin Timberlake, etc. shown are bad when they wear fedora (either the hat is terrile or they're definitely not in a well dressed occasion) while the photos of them hatless are photo sessions ones!

I'd like to do it in a fair way. I'm not saying I look good hatless or hatted, now it's just I feel more confident with hat. I invite you all fellow loungers to showoff :) this way, show one picture of you without hat, then another one with hat, same clothing, same location, same position, more or less like this:

Hatless (you see the evidence of balding!) lol

And now hatted!

Awaiting your pictures, guys! Opinions from female members are most welcome, definitely!

Yohanes, that lid is so perfect for you; Instant transformation from Average Joe to Dashing Rake! Excellent thread idea. I hope it catches on. I'll see what I can scrape together.

So why is wearing a fedora good?

Like Yohanes, I do feel more confident in a fedora. I also think it's a good way to show your originality- I think that a man's choice of hat shows something about him. It's a great way to change and improve your appearance.

I belong to a fraternal organization where the dress code is typically suits or tuxedos to attend meetings and affairs. I have always worn fedoras, porkpies, etc, not only when formally dressed, but also when dressed casually. I have my everyday hats that I wear to work, around the neighborhood etc. I also have many nice dress hats that go well with both business suits and tuxedos. At first, I took a lot of ribbing about my hats, you know, the typical stuff, Indiana Jones, Al Capone and all of the rest. I did not allow it to bother me, and remembered what my father (who by the way was an extremely sharp dresser) always said: "Dress to please yourself, not to impress anyone else." One of the higher ranking individuals in this organization took notice of my hats and liked them. He is also a hat guy, and now wears a fedora to functions. Since then, it seems that more and more people are doing the same. Did I start a trend? I don't know, but I can tell you this much, the guys that wear baseball caps with business suits are looking sillier than ever!!

I definitely agree with the comment about confidence. The idea of being original is also very addicting. Those two things make it impossible to go back once fedoras have hooked you.

You have a great look, jpbales.

JPbales! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about! As I said before, I hope this thread will simply say to everyone who reads this, "Look, this is why I'm wearing a fedora!"

Specially those who haven't known about fedora, and curious about it. Seeing is believing. Sexy or not, who cares? lol lol lol

Jpbales, those comparison pictures are excellent. They show how a hat can make the difference between bland and stylish without changing anything else about the clothing.

Nothing quite finishes a look like a good lid. And for those who find this odd, I say let them. I would be loathe to live in a world where everyone was a paper punch-out of the latest fashion and no one took pride in a personal sense of style.

To me, when I see someone who takes pride in his appearance, I see someone who takes pride in every other part of his life. It reminds me of a very stark lesson taught in Clothier training; the instructor asked each of us to describe how we had selected our outfits for the day. For those of us (including me) who said we simply donned the nearest unwrinkled items, we cringed when she pointed out that how one prepares for meeting someone reflects on our opinion of that person.

Of course we dress well when we know we are meeting someone important that day. By dressing well every day, we are showing that we respect each person we may meet that day. Even if that person doesn't understand.

The brand is Bond, as seen in the liner - based on the sources here it's actually the name of a store - but not sure who's the real manufacturer. No information about the model either, but so far this is my favorite hat.

Wel, buddy, don't just comment lol show your pics here the same way, please lol hatless and hatted :)

Here's a similar look with a tie (I actually wore this to church yesterday):

My dear boy, one NEVER wears a tie with short sleeves. ;)

Right. Unless you're in the military. NEVER! Heat is but a state of mind, but bad fashion in pics lasts for eternity. ;)

Actually a light colored long sleeve is often cooler than short sleeves. By the way jpbales, the hats do give you a good look.
