Black 3 piece suit maybe 1930s. The pants were altered with a wedge in the back to gain more space and the legs were made slimmer. :eusa_doh: I try to reverse some of this.
And yes...next time I will close the waistcoat button.

They sure do. Finland is in Northern Europe. Suits from Scandinavia, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Hungary, Eastern Europe, and Russia are also welcomed. All we ask is that you specify which country the item was made in.

Sporty 1930's German suit with belted-back jacket.

- Scalloped yoke (which, according to some, gives theses suits a distinctly 'western' touch)
- Deep box pleats in the back of the jacket
- Half-belt sewn on to the side seams of the jacket
- Extender tab for suspender buttons
- Angled side pockets
- Rear pocket with scalloped flap
- Single forward pleats
- Wide waistband w/o belt loops
- Remarkably lightweight fabric, especially for a German suit

Looks very 50's to me. I can literally see uncle Eberhardt/Franz/Alfons/you-name-him dancing to Ted Herold or Peter Kraus, boasting a shiny 'schmalztolle' and shoes with 'Kreppsohle'... :eeek:

Many vintage German suits tended to be rather drab. This pretty straightforward DB suit here is in dark gray as well with the inevitable white pinstripes but there is a nice little touch to it with its red pinstripes. I like them.

Seems to me that many German tailors had a penchant for wide waistbands.

Short jacket skirt. The sleeves are longer than the body of the jacket.

Sharp peak lapels. Lapel gorge is false- peak lapel is sewn to the collar.

Slanted shoulder seams

Selvedge in inside pockets, like on the Greek suit.

Prima buttons

Hand-stitched collar

The large buttons on the front match these sleeve buttons. All are silk.

The sleeves on the black suit I wear in the first post are just as long as the jacket skirt. I will take them in a bit because they are too long for me. Never happened before.

Slanted shoulder seams

Slanted shoulder seams are a feature I've seen on many old German jackets.

The stripes in the pockets are from the fabric selvedge.

The slanted shoulder seam was ubiquitous on suits in general during that period, and the farther back you go the more slanted they were.
